Do you hate looking like a roadie?

For those folks that hate wearing expensive cycle shorts or looking like a roadie:

Mama's little hipster

The possibility of one day being able to afford sexiho3 jeans is what keeps me going and makes each day worth living.

Fantasminha 12-09-08 07:38 PM

More gear that doesn't look like gear would be welcome. I do everything possible to cover up my cycle gear. Hate that stuff. makes me feel like a complete geek. :/

edited to add... GOOD GRIEF! I read the article but didn't see the price first time around. For that amount of money, I'll go out looking like a complete geek!

My Gosh ...

I don't like looking like a roadie (I mean, why look like a cycist if you're going to be in lab and class all day, sheesh) but that is just over the top. I prefer wearing tights under a skirt--it's more comfortable and cuter. Besides, there are other pants aside from jeans that you can wear on the bike, so why buy overpriced jeans?

That said, it IS a great idea, just wish it wasn't so expensive.

crhilton 12-09-08 07:57 PM

$360 for a pair of jeans. Even a roadie wouldn't pay that.

I wonder if they would last longer than 36 pairs of jeans ($10ea) from the thrift store? Although, certainly they would be more comfortable.

Kilted Commuter 12-09-08 08:06 PM

Kidding right?
$3 wool trousers from goodwill: lined and breathable, disposable in a pinch, hackable to knickers..no muss no fuss NO STINK! (if left long you could even wear them at work, is that not a goal of a commuter?)
and best of all ... $3
Still they aren't a kilt, but it IS 32 deg here

DataJunkie 12-09-08 08:24 PM

That price is something else. Crappy looking gear for assos prices.
Anyhow, don't mind me. I am a roadie.

I tried that, but the other guys laughed and called me names!

Yikes, $360! Is that Yen???

Popeyecahn 12-09-08 08:55 PM

For that money I'd rather look like a roadie...

Zoic baggies with liner, a white cotton tee and Cannondale road shoes is as roadie as I get, though I think I understand the roadie shorts, not only do they yield less drag, but they don't hang up on the saddle when mounting or dismounting the bike like my baggies do sometimes. I like all my pockets tho...

Wear what you want, I could care less and I suspect most people feel about the same.

"Sexy Ho Three" is a great product name, though. I wonder if Sexy Ho One and Sexy Ho Two never got off the design board.

  • Crotch cross-stitch moved 1" forward to delay crotch blow-outs and for the comfort of the rider
Why on earth would I want to delay crotch blow-outs?

Fremdchen 12-09-08 09:45 PM

I don't look like a roadie. I look like a member of the X-Men. :-P

pass the peas 12-09-08 09:54 PM

Sanforized. Good.
360 dollars. Bad.
21 oz. denim. Never in a subtropical climate.

ok_commuter 12-09-08 09:55 PM

I only ordered four pair; I don't get to ride on wednesdays.

Oh, this is the big one! You hear that, Elizabeth?! I'm coming to join you, honey!

ConstantRider 12-09-08 11:19 PM

Suddenly Outlier's prices look almost reasonable.

Sonoma76 12-09-08 11:46 PM

What's wrong with looking like a roadie? Some of us dress as commuters on weekdays and roadies on weekends. It's all good.

...almost

nashcommguy 12-10-08 12:48 AM

Ahhh, I don't mind looking like a roadie...they all think I'm a Fred anyway 'cause I've got lighting, rack, bags, etc and my bike weighs significantly more than a puff of methane. Then on Saturday when I'm pulling a 20% grade in 52x26(on my '85 SR300) w/o standing my Fredliness seems to disappear...as do the carbon framed wannabe Lances. It all has a tendency to even out, y'know? Spandex/lycra has their place and time used properly. Denim is for s**t beyond 5 blocks unless one thinks hipness is next to godliness...then there's no reasoning w/them. Heaven help the tragically hip.

J.C. Koto 12-10-08 01:00 AM

Do those jeans come with a white belt by chance?

Sixty Fiver 12-10-08 01:10 AM

Carhart pants cost about $40.00...
