+1

My musical preferences are towards various forms of electronica. EBM being my favorite.

I, on the other hand, sold all my hardware and put it on a laptop, and no longer need an extra bedroom every time I move.

Was Albert Einstein a hipster?

See, he is not wearing a helmet.

Reason I don't like "hipsters"? They think their way is the only way.

And you know this, of course, because they're always riding by you and yelling, "Ha ha ha YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!!"

So what's the problem? I've NEVER seen a tough/dangerous looking hipster. Throw'em out!

Oh no, I have pledged to my self not to ever again engage in hardware vs. software dialogue.

Whatever works for you.

joshwa 12-11-08 01:25 PM

I thought people stopped thinking people stopped using the term "hipster" in the '60s in the '90s.

DataJunkie 12-11-08 01:32 PM

Yes, there's been quite a bit of conflation, both of the subgenres, and the terms.

Naa, only ones I see are the ones walking their bikes because it wouldn't be cool to carry the stuff to fix that flat tire.

And you know this, of course, because you stopped and shook them down and took an inventory of what they were carrying, and then interrogated them in the lambent glare of a 300 watt lightbulb to find out why they weren't carrying "the stuff".

Stop imagining that you know what's going on inside other people's heads. It's absurd and there's already too much pop psychology in the world.

mcclary 12-11-08 02:53 PM

I'm 24. I ride a fixed gear conversion on my 6 mile rt commute to work in an urban location. It has lights (F&R) and a rear fender as well as F&R brakes. I can track stand. I wear jeans when I ride that are left over from my skateboarding days; they're usually tight, but not always. I also wear a helmet. I stop at lights unless I know I can ride through safely and without getting in other's right-of-way. I don't think I'm a hipster, I just do my thing and let others do theirs.

Oh lighten up. We're just observing social trends, some of which are silly.

DataJunkie 12-11-08 02:56 PM

Most are silly

They're never going to let you into the cool kid club with a terrible attitude like that...

+1.

Of course, we seldom, if ever, engage in any of these trends. And if we do, we do them for more legitimate reasons. ;)

Do you mean the hipsters are morons or the people that are bothered by them are morons?

Wait aren't both groups people?
