Wow! I'd commute in plus twos, a vest and tie just because I was on this bike!
Very nice! |
My commuter bike for about a year now.
http://edit.81x.com/Authors/Jabberwocky/CIMG3598.JPG To steal it, you'd have to go into my office, walk past the security guard I say hi to every morning, take the elevator to the 20 something floor, defeat the electronic lock to the floor, find my desk, grab my bike from under my desk, and walk out without any of my coworkers seeing you. Then figure out how to unfold it when you get outside. =) http://edit.81x.com/Authors/Jabberwocky/CIMG3600.JPG |
nice bike - the wonders of a folder huh.

Nice! I have a Specialized P2 (free from a buddy) and I've been trying to figure out if I can fit a rack and fenders on it. I'm a noob at these things, so I either have to go to my LBS and pay for someone else to tell me these things or learn to do it myself, which is preferable. This was helpful because I haven't seen a lot online about retrofitting a Specialized to become a commuter. It gives me hope. :) Thanks!
Thanks!! the P2 is going to be tough to outfit as a commuter because of the geometry. You will probably need an uber long seat tube to accomodate. A good bet would be to search out a newer frame and swap all your P2 stuff over to that one. Or a newer hardrock can be picked up for around 400 now I believe. |

This is the bike I ride pretty much 95% of the time, though I find the gearing is too low... I want to go much faster.

I'm kind of new here. My commute is about 11 miles each way on rolling hills (about 1000 feet in climbing each way). I have attached a pic of my rig, let me know what you think! It's a Surly Cross Check 58cm with Ultegra front and rear dérailleurs and 105 STI shifters with a 105 12-25 freewheel. It has Jandd Mini Mountain Panniers, Planet bike fenders, two rear blinkers, FSA cranks and Mavic aksium wheel set with 700cx35 tires. I hope to get a black brooks saddle soon and maybe some new pedals.

A local newspaper is doing a column on my commuting, and they have pictures online, here:
http://post-trib.mycapture.com/mycap...istSubAlbums=0 BTW, I am planning on getting a reflective safety vast, though I am running Dinotte lights in the front and rear. I've been waiting forever for the column to get published. Maybe the paper's management decided not to run it out of fear of losing car dealership sponsors. |

This is my commuter that I use to get all around campus.

I used this Panasonic DX2000 for a couple months last year before I gave it away. I then used my fixed gear (For sale) and every other bike under the sun.
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...y/IMG_4507.jpg During the winter, I picked up this 16" Smoke 2-9. It should handle my commute much better than the Panasonic. It has 700x47's which are great on the coal/gravel rail trail that makes up 3/4 of my 14 mile ride. So far so good! The basket should do wonders for carrying my work gear and groceries. I think I would like to change the bars to something a little more comfortable soon. Pardon the poor photo, it's too dreary to drag it outside :) http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...s/IMG_5281.jpg |
