This is my $100 bike. It's a Canadian Tire store brand, a Supercycle SC 1800. I stripped off the decals, and added all the accessories you see here. The little flap at the end of the rear fender was my fix for the rear fender being too far forward. The bracket interfered with the rear brake, so I turned it around. The flap keeps me from getting the mud stripe up my back :-) All told it weighs about 36.5 lbs, and I have about $185 total investment, taxes included.

Is that a Click-Stand I see?

Where'd that leather hardcase come from?

bicyclerampage 05-28-09 03:13 PM

old 35mm camera case. i took out the slots for lenses and made a mega compartment, bolted it to my rack with some screws and washers the glint tape is non adhesive and is basically used for extra strapping. case was waterproofed with boot sealer

Homemade then? Well, let me congratulate you on creating what has to be one of the most beautiful rack trunks I've seen.

@ neilfein: no, just a cheap kick stand mostly hidden from view. I looked that up, though. Click stands are cool.

That is a great bike! I wanted one so bad and could not find one so I got my LHT. That is a great bike to go camping with on the weekends with fenders and racks.

My old commuter... 1983 Nishiki International fixed gear conversion. Was such a great ride and really got me pumped riding to work. Unfortunately the bike is out of commission and won't be seeing a comeback for quite some time :(.

Current commuter once I heal up and am able to ride again.

I love the smaller tire sizes. 650B, 26"... yes. This is a winner.

Tigerprawn: I'm curious about that champagne cork...

This is my commuter: A 2008 Kona Fire Mountain/E-Xtracycle
The frame, rear wheel, brake calipers, deraileurs, crankset, and brake levers are stock.
Everything else has been changed for one reason or another.

noglider 05-29-09 10:45 AM

What do you carry in all those bags? It looks like you live on your bike.

xtrajack 05-29-09 11:04 AM

The seat bag has my tools, the bag on the top front rack holds the battery and controller for my E-zee hub motor (front), the triangle bag in the frame holds the battery and controller for the Down Low Glow, the handlebar bag holds the bottle for the Air horn and assorted odds and ends, the bag on the top tube holds fruity oatey bars, the front panniers hold clothing for various weather conditions and the freeloaders generally are empty so I can carry home groceries ect.

That's the Fred3 bike of the year. There's a Revolutionary War era "Don't Tread on Me" flag on the back! Perfect.

xtrajack 05-29-09 12:15 PM

The Fred3 bike of the year, I like it. Thank you.

A little hard to tell from the blurry pic, looks like a Trek Mountain Trail. Great bike. My girlfriend has one and it is working quite well for her.

Get some slicks on that, and it will ride great.

Thanks man! I actually wanted a long haul trucker for some years now, but just recently I jumped on this beauty for somewhat less than it would cost for a complete LHT. Although I really couldn't properly mange the purchase of the portage, I like to think of it as a rare investment opportunity. Only time will tell...

Pletscher touring stand:

http://www.thorusa.com/dahon/accessories/pletscher.htm

I love mine but a few notes on the stand...

It is reasonably stable and the mechanism works well as long as you keep it clean... it is very prone to collecting dirt which can make things a little sticky.

Setting it up so you can use it as a roadside stand is great but getting things right might take a few adjustments.

It is an expensive stand.

I got mine for free as a local shop was tossing them out and some friends retrieved 10 of them from their dumpster.

I would have paid money for it though.

bigdurian 05-31-09 11:19 AM

I've since added a Dinotte 200L on the handlebar, here are some indoor pics, I will take some outdoor pics soon
