i agree, some nice VO fenders would look delightful on that

noglider 02-03-13 10:30 PM

Clydesdale, are you getting toe clips? I mean, you're riding a fixie. I would certainly want some sort of foot retention.

Yes, toe clips are on the list of odds and ends I'd like to add to the bike. I have been planning on toe clips for over a year now. I can never seem to get them though, because something else always takes precedence. Maybe the fixie conversion will motivate me to go ahead and get them. I am thinking velo orange.

Also from MEC, called PF-2 43L. I was amazed by how much they can expand; I should never run out of space now.

I really like those and the yellow one's are on sale - some of the reviews mention issues with putting on non MEC racks. Opinion?

Future commuter or all 'rounder. Have some braze ons that will be added and clincher wheel set. Lousy pic but....

Looks like a decent lugged frame and I like the shoulders on the fork. What is it?

Edit: just saw the name on the pic. That's going to be a nice rider. Those early 80's treks are nice. Do a c&v build thread please.

They go on OK, just the standard wiggling and cursing, same as my other (small) pair. Once they're on, there's no possibility of them ever coming off accidentally, but I wish it could be a little easier...

I can't remember the name of the rack because I pulled it off my old MTB. I think it was from MEC too though.

Thanks... checking on shipping to states

Just switched this bike from drop bars to Soma Oxford and some cheap thumb shifters.

RidingMatthew 02-06-13 12:55 PM

this may be a dumb question but how do you mount the bell on the stem like that?

Junkdad 02-06-13 01:08 PM

There is a portion of stem that is about the same diameter as the bars. I'll try to remember to get a better picture. The bike shop mechanic recommended it.

PatrickGSR94 02-06-13 01:12 PM

With a headset spacer designed to mount a bell on it. :)

New, (to me) Schwinn World GS . Sittin' downtown by the railroad station..

Not exactly a bicycle per se, but that's what I use to cycle commute on. (Drive the car way more than I'd like to...)

I should try commuting with the folder some time, but the gearing isn't suitable for climbing hills yet.

PatrickGSR94 02-06-13 09:41 PM

man I LOVE LOVE the way those 'bent trikes sit with 2 wheels up front. Looks like it would be really comfy and fast. I really want to try one sometime.

bhtooefr 02-06-13 10:05 PM

Comfy, absolutely.

Fast, not so much. (IIRC, a fast trike loses about 1-1.5 mph over a good road bike, a slow trike loses another 1-2 mph. And, we won't talk about hills (well, OK, it depends on the trike, and depends on how you ride - some riders can actually get the lighter trikes (that means they're below 35 lbs, instead of approaching or above 40) up a hill faster than they can a road bike, due to how you can apply torque to the pedals on a 'bent. Certainly not machines for weight weenies.) But, I don't care. :D

haha, well if i do the math it would be about $60

but if i already paid for something and im reusing an old unused wheel i consider it free, so in my mind its still $14 :)

I'm only jealous 'cause I bought a frame for $25 to build winter bike thinking I had all the parts for a complete build... after just buying studded tires I'm close to having $200 in it

im thinking about getting a set of wheels for $200, then some legit $40 fenders so it wont be a freebee for long

jdswitters 02-07-13 03:29 PM

need to switch the bell with the coffee cup holder, but it works well for my short commute.
