Here's my winter commuter: 2012 Fuji Nevada 2.0. Built up a Shimano dynamo hub front wheel with a Supernova front and rear light. Tires are the Nokian Hakkapeliitta W240's, which I find to be fantastic tires! Today there was 2-5 inches of fresh powder on the trails, so I brought a set of XC skis just in case it got deep enough to get some skiing in on the way home.

Went for a ride this morning........ :)
http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...pszy9yki8v.jpg http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...pshtgv2t8w.jpg Deepest snow so far with this new bike. Those tire ruts were terrible... definitely need a more aggressive tread for snow.... plan to get a full winter wheelset front dyno/roller brake hub and rear 8 speed IGH with coaster built in. http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...psy1kmvm8d.jpg Yes, these are crocs... and they work. :) http://i975.photobucket.com/albums/a...pshwzxk5oa.jpg - Andy |

That's a Selle SMP, right? I have a friend that swears by those seats...

Yes, that's Selle SMP TRK for touring model. It is indeed a really comfortable saddle in my experience. If you want to go for long haul, low-to-mid speed (up to 25mph), this is definitely one to consider. Not the lightest touring saddle around, and not high speed (racing kind) riding style AFAIC.

The design actually makes sense to me - no smacking your back with the nose of the saddle getting on from a stop. But, it's just too goofy looking (nothing personal), and I generally could care less about bike aesthetics

If it works, they might as well just chop the nose off, no?
I think it looks kinda cool as is. Different, that's for sure. |

I took these pictures of my "rain bike" yesterday and thought I would share them here since it's mainly for commuting. The attraction of this bike is riding in freezing rain (it was 31° and raining when I took these), and keeping the wind off in cold weather. I also have cargo capacity in both the front and back.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=434748http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=434749 The sides aren't actually wavy - that's an optical artifact of the covering. It's hard to judge scale with this bike, but inside it's a drop bar road bike. The windshield is forehead height when I'm in the drops with almost parallel back. |

Does your head stick out the top? If it didn't I'd be constantly thinking, "I'm gonna get t-boned, I'm gonna get t-boned,...". Aren't crosswinds an issue? I'd love to see a pic of you actually riding this.

I know I posted 'some pictures' earlier of my bicycle - but this is how it looks 'fully loaded' for a ride, and at the time of day that I usually end up ridinghttp://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435465http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435466http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=435467 The 'shiny' thing hanging on the handle bar is my helmet with it's reflector strips...

I left work early and was rewarded with this breathtaking sunset over the semi-frozen Hudson (not that leaving work early requires a separate reward):

What's with handlebar mitts? My hands do just fine with normal winter gloves down to -10 or so, and beyond that I'd just layer a thin under armor running glove under my heavy winter gloves.
Anyways here's my bike how I rode it for today's commute. Skipped the gym today so ditched my rear rack for the seatpost bag. Felt a little faster going up the mild hills on my commute, was nice. http://i.imgur.com/go92m5L.jpg |
