Yours was probably a slightly higher end than mine if it came with DeoreLX. Mine had Alivio.

True, but the main difference was that is was labeled as a mountain bike, and not a hybrid. The Project-5 and Project-7 were the upper tier 700cm mountain bikes, but all three had the same frame. These were the first "29ers" that just never caught on until recently.

Mine was advertised as 'Cross Terrain', the beginnings of cyclocross, I suppose--cantilever brakes, taller BB, short head tube. It's heavy has heck, but tough.

I bet it rides great too. Those Moluko bars and rear rack did nothing to help with weight on mine, that's for sure. Then I add my panniers loaded with my lunch and supplies and it feels like a tank. Albeit, a rather nimble, fairly fast tank. ;)

Thanks very much. I have a whole list of changes I'd like to make in the future but the first will be to replace that hideous stem with a Nitto Technomic and increase the reach. Its a little cramped right now.

Meh! Maybe if I were to take all the accessories off and slap on slicks it might. As it is it is usually wearing 38mm city tires, and with fenders, rack, panniers that are loaded with 40lbs of groceries, OR wearing 35mm studded tires for winter use, I hardly say it's nimble. But that's why I call it my mule.;)

Here is my SE Hefe.

I know SE's Don't get much love around here, but they seem take a beating. I grew up a 80s BMX kid, and SEs were the most exotic thing around. The rectangular aluminum tubing PK Rippers, and crazy double down tube Quadangles were the ones I lusted over as a lad, so it was a no-brainer when I was looking for a beater commuter. I like the simple 1x7 gears and twist shift. The matte black looks great. Due to my roots, I prefer an upright riding position, so I put on a BMX stem, beautifully welded Orgin8 aluminum BMX bars, added some 'beartrap' pedals, and removed the front brake (for rad skids!). I put a big, comfy brown leatherette seat in homage to the SE Racing original blue & brown colors.

So here it is, my short-guy BMX flavored commuter. I've been riding it nearly every day.

Felt v55 Adventure Bike
 

I love seeing the large variety of commuter bikes in this sub-forum!

Here's another one that doesn't seem common (apparently I have the only one on the island according to the only Felt dealer in HI). :)

It's a Felt "adventure" bike with 700x35c tires, a shorter stem (I have long legs but a short reach), and a few other minor changes you can see. Absolutely love the versatility of this bike!!!

That's pretty sweet! There's a guy that lives near me that we have about a mile of shared bike-commute, lately he's been riding a 29er version of a BMX bike, single speed, it's got a blocky bmx stem like that, and rectangular tubing. It's by some bmx legend I don't remember his name, but my buddy said he always wanted one of his bikes when he was a kid, and now that he's grown up he was able to buy himself one -- and the frame is autographed!

Rectangular square tubing means it's a SE PK Ripper. Cool bikes. Scot Breithaupt was a true innovator. I had one when I was young, and when it got stolen, I was so disgusted that I actually stopped riding for a couple years.

I see some BMX style fixies around town, so I know it's not just me.

Just finished building a 26" BMX cruiser. Mongoose frame, beach cruiser tires; big wheel BMX bikes cruise so smooth....

I had a rectangular-tubed bmx bike when I was a kid, but it was just painted flat grey, a generic copy I think. (Unless I somehow got ahold of one that was overpainted)

I've always wondered: do competitive BMX racers ALWAYS ride 20" wheels, regardless of how tall they are? I've seen 24" bmx bikes out and about, but the couple times I watched olympic bmx, all those bikes looked so teeny tiny!

If it had the gusset wedge at the headtube, and was lovingly welded out of aluminum, then most likely yes.

There are 24" and 26" cruiser classes at most events. Can't beat a 20" for it's low center of gravity, and maneuverability though...

I think it had a gusset, but don't remember it being very light at all, I think it was steel. But back then I was just a dumb kid and didn't know what's what. That bike is completely lost to ancient memory by now, I doubt there's even photo evidence.

I just repurposed my former fixie into a summer commuter. Changed to a single speed and changed the drop bars to bullhorns.

Since my first post a few weeks ago I have raised the nose of the seat a few degrees and lowered it a .5 inch due to some very uncomfortable pain in the nether regions that has definitely gotten better since the change.
Also have installed some fenders that were insanely easy to install/take on and off/ and look incredible
Just last night I attached my long awaited (thanks amazon) rear rack and hopefully this evening some time my top Pannier will arrive.

That's a nice lookin rack

Looks like an Ibera rack like mine. Very solid attachment with the trunk pack. I only attached one strut because it's plenty stout for the stuff I put in it.
