I stand corrected. Although thinking about it, I don't know if I would want to get in to third party stuff for an IGH.

I find that the third-party stuff is built really well.

JTek shiftmate immediately comes to mind. Most IGHs are quite cheap anyways.

My '74 Peugeot U08 has been tweaked, modified and reworked numerous times.

1992 - Trek 970

Hey there... This is my commuter. It's a 92 Trek 970 that I have owned for years. The bike wasn't getting much use from me until I threw on the Nitto Bosco bats you can see in the picture. The new riding position gained from the bar swap made this my favorite bike in the stable. I swapped the saddle, wheels, tires, brakes, shifters and bought a basket... Now I'm looking for a set of fenders to throw on it. My work commute is only five miles away from home, but thanks to this bike, It's my favorite part of my day.

Wow. Looks awesome. Never heard about this bike before. Is it a touring bike? How is the ride.I have a Schwinn Voyageur 1980 s tange champion tubing which I bought used and would like to turn it a touring slash commuter. It has the racks front and rear original..

Probably my commuter-to-be at some point.

The front wheel is the one that was on my 7100 when I got hit by a truck, with new spokes. It'll come up true, then settle to a moderate wobble within a mile of riding. Only given it two ride-and-retrue runs so far, but will keep doing that as spare time allows this week. If it'll settle into a stable true, then I'll start looking for racks and fenders for it.

Since it's in shop colors, and an example of what we can do with a formerly unrideable department store bike, the boss likes the idea of it being both a commuter and a shop showpiece. Get people away from thinking that flashy and functional are mutually exclusive.

Fantsy!

Did you handpaint all that detail?

Base coat in the teal and orange, then masked the details and topcoated with the oil-rubbed bronze. Couple of clear coats over that.

Thanks! It was not a strict tourer but more of a sport tourer and all around bike. You can really do a lot with a U08 frame especially once the original steel crank and wheels are tossed. Nice relaxed French geometry and a strong, comfy ride. I love it.

And dip the chainrings and brakes in the paint as well I assume?

My main ride at the start of the new school year. It's a 2013 Surly Cross-check, with 1x8 gears. I replaced the stock wheels this year after about 11,000 miles, with the second and third wheels I've ever built: Sun rims and 105 hubs with 36 spokes in the back (for the ample gentleman) and 32 in front. They've stayed straight so far! The bike's about 32 pounds as shown. The polka dots on the top tube are touch-ups using model paint; the non-drive side has it all over from leaning against racks and things. Not too many parts remain from when my wife bought it for me as a 40th birthday gift, but it's been a great all-purpose bike for me.

Two different colored bar tapes = FUN!

Nice that they let you bring your computer inside. :)

My "rainy day" ride I restored earlier this summer. It's a '92 Bianchi Project-3 mountain bike with the Surly Moloko bars. It's also my evening "walking the dog" bike. :)

Hey, that's pretty cool, never seen those Moloko bars before. Looks like a clone-ish of Jones H Loop. They doing well for you?

FargoRider 08-23-17 12:10 PM

I really like them because of all the hand positions. The sweep is nice and comfortable for more of an upright position, but you can grip up top for either climbing or going into a head wind to stay down low like drop downs. Feels a lot like riding the hoods of my road bike commuter.

It's the latest in office efficiency. Keeping extension cords going out to the parking lot was becoming a real problem. :roflmao2::lol:

(I updated the typo in my post so no one else notices I'm a moron :thumb:)

PennyTheDog 08-23-17 12:43 PM

It was sort of accidental: I wrecked the tape on one side and only had one roll left. But now that I've gotten used to it I like it! I think I'll just keep replacing one side at a time.

They actually had a coat of gloss black on them to start with, so a light cleaning with acetone, then sprayed directly over the existing paint.

After a bit more riding, it just doesn't feel quite big enough for me. Storing it in the "used bikes for sale" line, and if a good enough offer comes along, it'll be good advertising to have it around the campus. It's mainly practice and a bit of variety at the moment anyway; gives me something different to ride to lunch or for an afternoon spin down the MUP.

I gave my ride some STI's. Next upgrade will be a compact double crankset as 1x7 isn't always enough.

I'm from Hungary mate. :) Excuse me for the pipeline, the lightning was better from this angle. :p

Looked familiar. Have extended family in Budapest and Bakonyoszlop with a lakehouse on Balatonfüred. Haven't been there this summer unfortunately :(

Need to get over again and need to make it down to Pécs but did sneak to Tamási Termálfürdő last summer, which was quite nice ... especially outside :)
