Nice video Omiak. I don't think I could handle that traffic myself.

If I were still married, I'd leave my wife for this bike.

Those hammered fenders are nutso!

Here goes:
The bike is a Civilian Corduroy Rebel. It came stock with:

  • Shimano Alfine 8 internal gear hub
  • Gates Carbon Belt Drive
  • Tektro Lyra disc brakes
I had the bike re-powder coated to RAL 1013 (off-white/almond shade in person).
Aftermarket gear I've added:
  • Schwalbe Delta Cruiser brown tires
  • VO Hammered fenders
  • Brooks B17 honey saddle
  • Niterider Lumina 650 headlight
  • Crane Brass Headset Spacer bell
  • Minoura Besso front fork headlight mount
  • VO Retro water bottle cage (with brown elkhide leathers)
  • Klean Kanteen stainless bottle w/bamboo top
  • Lezyne Road Drive M pump w/pressure gauge hose
  • MKS Touring pedals
  • Civia Bryant chain guard (custom cut and fitted by me)
  • Naborsa leather saddle bag
  • Spanninga Pixeo fender mount tail light
  • Tubus Locc rear rack (built in mounts for Abus locks)
  • Abus X-Plus 54 Granit lock w/TexKF mounting system
  • Portland Design Works Danger Zone tail light
I may have gone a little overboard with the accessorizing...

A dynamo hub will be in the future for my next bike for sure. The idea behind this bike was to aim for a somewhat retro look, but with every modern commuting convenience. Going full on retro next go-around though!

Owlicks, that's gorgeous! Perhaps just a bit too precious for my tastes, but damn, that's a handsome, impressive, steed! You should ride it proudly.

Owlicks - that's a beautiful bike. You've done everything right. I wouldn't be terribly concerned about the lack of dynamo if purely aesthetic purposes are concerned.

It's never too late to switch to dynamo power. I've added it to my 1990's Bianchi Volpe SUV.

Oldie, but a goodie.

Here's my 1984 Trek 620 I would commute with, but currently entirely disassembled on my basement floor. She's getting some new parts and a new paintjob

+1 Dynohubs on all my commuters were the best move I ever made and when factoring in the cost of new batteries and battery run light sets it becomes a far better value.

Gorgeous. What was the catalyst for the paint job? It looks great in the photo.

+2. Any commuter bike I build up in the future will have a dynohub. My current ride, a Bianchi Valle, has spoiled me.

Never heard of Civilian but those are some great looking bikes. After looking at the website I'm contemplating the SS Luddite mountain bike.

Thank you! Sorry, what do you mean by "what's the catalyst," the bike was repainted by previous owner in 2001. I believe he was trying to replicate the Surly LHT blue. I have the touch up paint bottle from the previous owner though, the bottle reads: SF GM 389, and also "GM codes 21/WA 7470." I believe it is auto paint.

I've been finding places in my area to properly sandblast and powdercoat.
My inspiration: https://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdn...ing-bike01.jpg

But, i really really do love that blue....sigh, decisions!

My new Vaya on the way to work

The last of the 2012 orange paint. I totally lucked out finding this one heavily discounted, (Thanksgiving weekend), the vanilla white color of the '13 models is a highly undesirable color for me.

I guess I could've said, "why repaint?" - the catalyst thing was aimed at getting to what caused/inspired you to consider a re-paint, and you've answered it. Thanks! I agree it does look really nice as is, and it would be a tough decision to change it. The linked pic is really cool, too. I personally would keep the Trek as is and perhaps have a side project to create something like the linked bike from a salvaged or cheap CL find - a decent bike that just needs some love.
