ok.. i've been sick since last friday. i tried to get better over the weekend, but didn't work. cold and allergy got me big time! anyway, so lately i've been driving to work instead (i know.. shame on me )but i've noticed a lot of bikers biking to work. then i would sit there and stare at them and their bikes (regardless of what brand or kind) and just be in awe wishing i could ride as well. then suddenly.. HONK! it's green light i gotta drive.

sometimes, i just want to roll down my window and say "awesome bike... ride on!" but didn't want to sound like a hypocrite cuz i'm driving instead of riding.

If I'm ever driving and I see a cyclist I want to yell out, "Hey - I'm one of you guys."

Ya, of course.

I was riding through an old urban neighborhood one afternoon (to the bike shop after work) when a guy in a wheelchair (in the street) shouts out, "Way to go on the bike, baby, way to go!" He holds out his hand and I slap it on the way past.

I just saw another group today. Around Boone it's pretty cool, there is this group of 40 or so who take the right lane and I see them about twice a week when it's nice out. I have asthma and chronic bronchitis (and I'm only 20) so I can sympathize with the alergy sufferers. I know how hard it is seeing everyone biking and not being out there with them, but try to take it easy untill you're well enough to ride. Think of it this way. If you bike to work once this week your doing better than most of the population. Peace

Personally if I'm too sick to ride to work, I'm too sick to go to work point blank. It takes a fair bit of illness to get me off the bike, and I'm sure my co-workers don't want that spreading around the office.

well, i wish i could bike to work this week. thus far.. i feel like i am constantly bombarded with anything that floats in the air... ie. dust!

as for work.. i have to go to work because my boss took the week off, and there is no one there in my team unless if i go in. therefore... i'll just spread my germs just to get everyone sick... cuz that's what they get for paying me so crappy and getting me sick in the first place. haha

can't wait to get better soon... my nose looks soo red it's not even funny. and it's still hella ichy and i just want to reach down my throat to scratch it.

My commute to work involves either a plane flight or me crawling (sometimes literally) into my home-office. However, if I'm out driving and I see a cyclist riding their bike, I will smile and sometimes wave through my sunroof. It's hard to miss that I'm a cyclist when my Jeep's windows are plastered with STP static stickers, there's a bike rack hanging off the hitch (sometimes there's a bike on there too), the back seat has my gear bag (actually a roll-along backpack luggage) with my helmet bag strapped down with one of the seatbelts, there's a floorpump behind the passenger seat and cycling shoes and random bits of cycling apparel littering the floorboards.

Yeah, it's so nice to have a whole bus stop (like 20 kids) cheer as I go by.

Yeah, I even feel quite guilty getting in the car.. my bike is in pieces... I need to get a new headset installed and the rear wheel tensioned and I've been remiss in doing such ... so i've fallen in the rut of using the car... when its not raining I walk - only 30-40 minute walk.. but its raining here... still. I look at every cyclist on the way in and feel bad.

I usually roll down my window and give them a thumbs up, but this is often misconstrued as the one finger salute...

i feel you on that one... althought my commuter rockhopper is fine.. but i've been looking into replacing the frame to a smaller one.. at least to the one that fits me. frames are pretty expensive... so i'm thinking maybe i should just buy another bike instead... haha

I find that when I drive I subconsciously act like I'm riding:

I drive really slow and try and check out the scenery around me.

Every time I cross a street I check it out to see if it would be good to ride on!

I also criticize other drivers by saying, "hey If I were on my bike he could have hurt me!"

I do this all the time. Unfortunately, my commute is 75 kms one way to a 12 hour shift. So, no cycle commuting for me. Maybe one day I'll get a job closer to home.
