Performance Bike Schwinn Commuter package

This seems like a pretty good deal with an additional 15% today and tomorrow:

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...TOKEN=85096903

Anyone have any experience with the this bike?

Thanks

There have been some previous threads on this bike when it was released. General consensus was that it was great bang for the $. Sweeter deal with 15% off. If there's a Performance near you see if they have it in stock. My experience with them is that they'll match their online price in the store - if asked.

I test rode a 2009 Schwinn World GS very simalar bike but with Shimano instead a Shram and loved it and bought it . Haven't [icked up yet kina letting them store it for winter . I really liked the bike a lot that is a very simalar bike and looks like a good deal . You should be able to get close to that price at a local LBS thou I think you might wana check .

I saw one a while ago at the Performance store. It seemed solid enough but was much heavier than I expected. If you have some mechanical aptitude you could pick up a good used lugged steel bike, and rack/fenders for much less $. The money saved would pay for a good light (cygolite comes to mind) with plenty left over. It'd probably be 10 pounds lighter.

That rear light doesn't seem to be very effective as mounted.

You're probably right. It's new and pretty, but in the end probaly isn't much better than my old letour with some wald baskets and fenders.

Yes, and I cannot say that the bikes I've used for commuting are cheaper. The bikes I've refurbished and flipped on Craigslist are much better on average but for someone who wants an easy start this entry point is ok. The light isn't powerful enough but it is a complete package. I suppose we should hope attempts at producing commuter bikes are rewarded.

The bike I rode and bought is a Swhinn World GS I took it for a long ride it did well .It didn not come with lights just a rack i added another $350.00 in lights and a trunk bag . put together by a LBS it was as solid as bikes I rode costing twice as much and genraly they had the same or simalar parts . its a good bike IMO specialy at that price point . They are putting a disc chain gurad on mine and changing the cranks .I didn.t buy it for looks or because it was perty I don.t even remember what color it is forsure I just know it felt solid under me handled the rotten bumpy roads here well . But thats my 2 cents . I ride a lot at night so I had to have good lights . Anyway that looks like the Shwinn World GS and again IMHO its a well made bike for the $$ duno about the add on lights and other stuff thou .

Can't comment on the particular bike but it looks like a good deal especially with the 15% off. If you go for it, join the Performance Club. For $25 you get 10% of all purchases back in merchandise.
