Don't you dare convert a helpless classic bike into a fixie...shame on you...
And doohickie did not steal any bikes...he either found them in the dump or was given them...

Nice bike! No you did not get ripped off. It's a decent price for that bike. You even have some budget left over for some accessories. Well done!
For starter accessories I would recommend:
- helmet
- Front Blinker Light
- Rear Blinker Light
- Rear Rack with some type of storage
- Chain Lube
- Chain Degreaser
- Basic multi-tool (or individual tools)
*** Maintaining your bike is half the fun! ***
btw, post a pic of your cat here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...310584&page=27

i love my car. i work on it all the time, but i think im gonna use my bike more often now.

First off a good lock is a kryptonite u lock, but they are expensive. I would go with some sort of ulock for sure though, they have to either have a key or a torch to get through it. Always lock the bike through the back tire AND the frame, and always attach it to something that can not be broken or moved easily, such as a bike rack or a street sign.
The toe clips with straps will help your efficiency later on, once you get used to them they are easy to get in and out of, it took me maybe two rides. The trick is to just pull straight backwards when you try to get your foot off the pedal, not up. Also if you loosen the straps a little bit it will help you get your feet in and out...they should be tight enough to keep your feet from lifting off the pedal, but loose enough to easily manuever your feet if needed.
Enjoy the bike, first things to get...lights and lock. Then you can worry about a rack and things...backpack works fine.

just went out for a ride. i raced my brother in his car. the location was 2 miles away and he beat me... by maybe a min. i noticed im completely out of shape. i get winded easy. the straps actually helped alot, it made pedaling easier. the seat is also very uncomfy. so i might buy a new seat. im just so happy with my bike. after i get a lock im gonna ride this thing everywhere.

This is what we like to hear. You did well with the second bike. The first one I would take if offered for free.
BTW, I want a refund for my wasted bandwidth. Those are some seriously large pictures!

I paid $60 for this bike (in San Francisco!), and sold it for $80 four months later when I left town. It was an awesome ride.
The saddle and rack were purchased seperatedly and not sold with the bike.

Another one bites the dust!
I bought a road bike a few years ago, unsure if I would like it as much as I remembered. That's led to me commuting to the train station by bike every day. I have two Mustangs (including the one in my avatar) and I drive one maybe once a month (and never for my commute).
Congrats on a great buy for that bike - I love old steel!

I have that exact bulldog lock...it works great. If you are going to strip it and paint it, make sure you have the time and space to do it...you could have someone sandblast the frame and have someone else powdercoat it for you...a bit more expensive that way though

Nice find on the Nishiki! you got a good deal, especially in Brooklyn. If your worried about the paint, powdercoat is the way to go, should run about $100 for the frame and fork. Other than that, I second a good lock, run a cable through anything that has a quick release, and possibly a rack and fenders if you think you could use them. Deffinetly lights, and since you mechanically inclined(assuming by your Celica), check out sheldonbrown.com to learn how to fix anything you can't figure out how to do on your own. Also, check out the classic and vintage forum here, your bike would fit right in there and I'm sure someone could tell you all about it.
