Ooofa. Yeah, it's cold here too, but not that cold. It's funny, though... I pulled up at the train station this morning, and a guy who was standing on the platform waiting for the train asked if I wasn't cold. Cold? I just rode five miles, how could I possibly be cold?

Yeah, I pull off my balaclava in the elevator on my way up to the office and no matter how much sweat is trickling down the side of my face, I will get asked that question.

However, when it's this cold I do have to be careful with my hands and feet. I absentmindedly grabbed the wrong gloves yesterday morning and there were a few times I had to ride with my fingers curled up inside my glove to warm them up again.

You guys have my utmost respect. It was "cold" here in N. Texas this a.m. and I almost wimped out. Whenever I feel like that, I think of you guys up north and that gets me to HTFU. Again, my balaclava is off to you!

Been cold up here as well. My new lights come this week, and I am hoping to brave at least a commute, but Sat delivery is more likely, so it will have to be Monday.

As I type this it's noon and it's still -6F. I admit it, I whimped out. The below zero high temps for the day are kind of my limit. My wife who is normally very very supportive really draws the line and doesn't want me to ride when it's this cold. I'm not gonna fight it so we carpool. I hate not riding.

Yep it's cold here as well, here's a pic from my ride to work on Christmas eve:

-32 C before windchill and it hasn't warmed up at all either.
I'm really looking forward to spring.

If my commute were mostly on a trail where I could be stranded for quite awhile if I crashed and got injured, I'd think twice too.

In my case, my frozen hulk would be discovered and picked clean pretty quickly.

I rode Monday and Tuesday of last week, but since then the weather just hasn't cooperated around here. My commute is not too conducive to cycling when the roads are not mostly clear of snow and ice. The forecast for next week looks better.

Hey Darkfinger, how do you like that mountain bike with disc brakes in the winter? I ask because I have a 29er on order mostly becuase I wanted disc brakes. I took my hybrid beater out yesterday in 7 degrees, and as long as I didn't go into deep snow, the ol rim v-brakes stopped the bike as fast as I wanted to stop on the snow and ice. My previous excursion into 5 inch deep snow caused some pretty poor braking with the rim brakes. I am now having second thoughts about getting the 29er just becuase I wanted a disc brake winter bike.

Darn tootin' that's cold! We're supposed to have a high of 19 this Friday in DC and I'm thinking that just might be cold enough to keep me off the bike for the day.

Yeah my wife remarked that the temp in Mpls would be -19 today while watching the weather, I laughed and said it's always that cold or colder on my birthday there. It's was a balmy -30 back in '62 and some kind of blizzard action goin' down my mum always like to remind me.

Yeah you guys get my respect as well

my wife ordered me to let her take me home, but failed. She said that 14F was going to give me a heart attack. If it did, it was a mild one.

114F, perhaps. 14F, not so much.

It's funny, people just don't realize, I guess, that you can keep adding clothes until you're not cold anymore. Only places where it gets challenging is the fingers (if you value dexterity), and around the eyes.

-25 or -30 C or something like that here this morning. Had to meet someone downtown and found myself frozen in 1st gear (40x28). Had to get around all day like that. Next winter bike's gonna be a fixed gear.

Thanks man, half the family was born in November, the other half in July or August. I remember those tornado skies, yellow, green, purple and then black.

BTW, I used to live on 42nd and Garfield and Lake Harriet was my second home during the summers.

The lakes area isn't exactly San Diego, but it's not a bad place to be either, especially in the summer. You were lucky

I'm just South of 42nd on Standish. If that doesn't sound familiar, it's further East by Lakes Hiawatha and Nokomis (as opposed to Harriet and Calhoun near your old stomping grounds). Before we actually moved to Minneapolis, I spent a lot of time windsurfing on Calhoun and sometimes on Harriet. I used to play volleyball not too far from the bandshell. I miss those days :sniff:

By 2010, a "bike boulevard" is supposed to be completed along 40th and 42nd streets from Calhoun all the way to the river. I'm looking forward to biking with our kids on Sunday nights to catch a concert at the bandshell.

Man I'm hoping to start commuting again next week and I can't WAIT! (Bike was stolen back in early Sept, just got a new one).

My neighbor was like "Have you seen the forecast for next week? Nothing above 32!"

I said "That means I won't have to ride in the rain!"

Bike blvd? Nice... Minnesota nice!

I used to work at the concession stand next to the bandshell, the old bandshell. Standish sounds familiar, but I didn't get out that way much unless I was going to the airport.

iPhone says -20 now... mmmmmm cold.
