What to look for? Brands and model names that you're familiar with, and that can be identified. Of course, some of the sellers go out of their way to identify everything on the bike, which really helps. The guy that sold me the Univega flips bikes on CL as his part time job, and used to work in a Schwinn factory, so he's pretty knowledgeable. Here's one of his current listings. Notice the multiple photos and the large list of parts names that he posts...

I bought a Trek 3700 for $100/sold it for $150. I bought a Trek 4500 for $100/sold it for $150. I bought a Trek Y-22 for $150/selling it on Ebay this week (hopefully). I bought a Trek 700 for $15/sold it for $100. I thnik there are a few others but I cannot remember right now. Oh, my current bike is a Trek 730 that I ride everyday, every chance I get. I absolutely love it. No matter what is wrong in my life my 730 is like Calgon, takes it all away.
