Own a used bike from Craigslist?
Anyone made a purchase on a used bike on Craigslist and totally satisfied with the purchase? Please state the maker of bike and how much. Any before and after photos you would like to share? I'm looking for a bike and in hope find a buried treasure in someone's garage.

I like older bikes and do almost all of my of own maintenance etc. I like craigslist for buying and ebay for selling. I bough this bike well below its market value, using ebay as a pricing guide.

Yep. Scott SUB 30, bought on craigslist for $260. Stock, except the guy had SKS fenders on it. It was in great condition, I'm not sure it had ever been ridden. Still love the bike, it's a great all-around ride.
Craigslist is great, just make sure to check your purchases over carefully before buying. I usually stress "i'm going to come look at it" because some people think it's just a money transfer. That said, of the 3 craigslist purchases i've made, I haven't turned down anything yet.

In January 2007 I bought a seven-year-old Trek 1000. It needed a lot of work. My $100 basically bought me a frame, fork, stem, bars and brake calipers. I replaced everything else. Well, except for the bottle cage bolts.
Before (crappy pic from Craiglist):

After beating the pi$$ out of it on the road for five years, it had spent two years trapped in a trainer. The guy never cleaned it. Sweat had seized the headset, the FD and the rear brake caliper. The poor thing still had the original cassette. Note the cross-chaining big-big. Poor chain.
After (in commuting form):

A much happier bike. Replaced the 2000 Sora drivetrain with 2007 Sora and ST-R500 levers. New wheels, tires, cables, saddle, seatpost, cyclometer, rack, lights, and bottle cages too. I was able to salvage the seized rear brake caliper too. It was nasty.

Absolutely. More bikes that I recall at the moment.
My main winter commuter is an early 90's GT Talera that I bought for $60 back in November from CL. Completely satisfied.

This Univega, my commuter, was $175. I added fenders, waterbottle cages. I changed the saddle, handlebar tape, pedals, chainrings, chain, cables, cable housing, rear rack, stem, seat post.

This is my Tommasini, also from Craigslist. I don't commute on it.

Both of my bikes are craigslist finds, my winter ride is a gt palomar that came with the a rack for $80. Replaced the tires added bar ends and fenders (which I got from CL) and I just did a full tune up (bought the bike in september) and that was because I got hit by a car and needed to get some work done anyway.
My other bike is a giant tcr full carbon fiber road bike that I absolutly love and all I have had to do since june was replace the tires.
I am a full believer that if you have some idea of what you are looking for and are willing to have patience you can find anything you want..... oh yeah I commute with panniers that I bought for $20 on CL.

Bought this for $60, rode it to death for 4 months, left town, and sold it for $80. The saddle is mine.

I bought my 2006 Kona Lana'i off Craigslist for $160. I think I got a pretty good deal. I have overhauled the hubs, replaced one of the tires, replaced the casette and chain, replaced the grips, and added a rack to the back. I plan to upgrade the rest of the parts gradually as they wear out.

I almost forgot, I also got a 1993 Univega Rover t2.3 off Craigslist for $25. I bought it for my wife. Turns out it might be too big for her, but it only needed a new tire. For $25 I couldn't resist.

I bought my late 80's/early 90's Miyata 610 touring bike with two used back wheel panniers, a handlebar bag, bike computer, and two side mirrors for $200 off of Craigslist. As I have used it for a year I see a few things with more wear and tear than I realized at the time of purchase, but they are all minor fixable things that I can upgrade/replace gradually.
Overall, I have been pleased with the purchase. Up to this point I have used it for commuting 16 miles round trip to work. I look forward to the possibility of using it on a short tour this summer.

Picked up this '86 Diamond Back Ascent for $40 - needed work but the basics were sound:

Bought this '93 Diamond Back Sorrento for $50 - loose BB & sticky shifter which were easily remedied (and the seat clamp being mounted backward which I corected shortly after taking this picture) - only mistake was giving it to my son - should have kept it for myself:

Then I found this '78 Schwinn Le Tour III for $50 - needed tres but all else was sound - it was the perfect mate for my Orange '77 Le Tour:

I've heard the craigs list bikes are pretty nice. Some prefer Ebay and some prefer the Classifieds bikes but the Craigs List bikes hold up pretty well...I hear. I was originally thinking about getting a Surly or maybe a Specialized but I've been hearing a lot about craigs list.

I bought an '86 Centurion LeMans RS from a seller I found through craigslist. I paid $350, which isn't as high as it sounds, considering that the seller had restored and equipped the bike nicely before selling it. It serves as my fairweather commuter bike.

Best used bike resource there is. I go low budget and buy older MTB's mostly. The Trek 520 was bought for $550 as you see it in the left pic. I rode the tar out of it for three years and sold it for $550 as you see it in the right pic- except I kept the saddle. Not bad. The old blue Raliegh Elkhorn I bought for $40 from the original owner - perfectly tuned. I just added street slicks and a decent saddle and some fenders. Being a higher quality frame, it'll go for no less than $175 around here. The saddle will stay with me. The Trek 930 is a $150 buy. I added new tires, a saddle, a Trek Interchange rack, fenders, ditched the lousy Alivio junk and installed some old school Deore. Sold it for $275 and I kept the Interchange rack and my Ortliebs.
