Pics of my winter commute
Thought you might enjoy some pics. I took these last Thursday (1/22/09). This is my commute here in CT.
The MUP: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00035.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00037.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00038.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00040.jpg Locked up at the bike rack at school: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00042.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00043.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00044.jpg On school grounds: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00045.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00046.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00047.jpg |
The frozen lake I pass on the way back home:
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00049.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00053.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...g/DSC00055.jpg By the time I took these pics, some of the snow had begun to melt, but you get the idea. I also could only stop ot take pics along the MUP, but not he road that I ride. It has no sidewalk and I wasn't about to stop on the side to take pictures. |
nice pics :thumb: - I wish I had as much scenery on my route.
Though, is that a QR front wheel left unlocked? |
Thank you. I do love the scenery.
Yes, the front QR wheel is unlocked. One of the things I still have to fix about the bike. Luckily there is almost nill in the way of bike theft on my campus (although I did have a frame pump stolen from my bike back in October. Thanks for the reminder I do still need to get a non-QR skewer for it. |
Nice pics. I wish the MUP around my house was cleared of snow somehow, but its not possible with the crushed limestone.
How does that bar end mirror (mirrylce?) work out with your bar ends for your hand? I presume OK, since you ride with them, but is there anything you had to tweak or modify to use it? I am getting a new winter commuter, and was going to sacrifice a bike mounted mirror to have those sleek bar end hand holds (the kind that are on the end, and half above and half below the bar). I thought of some sort of bull-horn bar end for my hands like you have, but figured the mirrycle mirror would still be too close? |
Thanks for the photos. How long is the commute?
|
Trombone, the commute is all of 1.5mi in each direction. Yeah. I'm that hardcore. :p
It's much faster for me to ride to school than it is to drive, once I take into account that there is always room on the bike rack, but never a spot anywhere near the school in the parking lot.

By the way, I'm disappointed. I figured for sure someone would have commented that my chain is just a little too short!!
