Hey guys,

Does anyone know the differences between the trek FX 7.0/7.3 and the specialized sirrus pro/elite (in terms of price and parts??)??

It says their parts and their geometry but there is so much info and different brands that I can't decide what part of what bike is better, and the price of the specialized does not show. The trek FX 7.0 and 7.3 are $600 and $1000 AUD respectively.

Not commenting on the parts, but I've had several aluminum Treks and have sold each and every one because of their harsh ride. I've had one Aluminum Specialized (Tricross) and it is by far, the smoothest riding bike I've ever had. Regardless of which tires are on it. Even better than Ti and Carbon bikes I've had.

Not sure if this helps but I used to build up Trek and Specialized bikes at a bike shop in the late 90's early 2000's. Built up their lowest end Trek 800's and Specialized Hardrocks to the highest end road and MTB bikes of the time (S-Works Specialized and Trek OCLV frames).

I can tell you without reservation that model for model, the Specialized bikes were of higher quality in terms of fit and finish and overall build ease. Wheels on Specialized (both cheap and expensive) were of consistantly higher quality, tension, and truness.

Out of the box, Specialized was ALWAYS better.

In terms of frame quality (since the components between most models was pretty similar) I would rate them about even. We had equal number of warranty repairs for both brands, which is to say very few.

In-house brands (Bontrager for Trek and Specialized in-house stuff) were about equal,.... where if pressed I would say the low end Specialized stuff was better and the high end Trek stuff was better (for in-house branded components only).

I still prefer Specialized over Trek for nearly any given model..

The question you asked was pretty general, and as others have posted, most of what you asked can be answered by the mnfd websites. So my answer was more tailored to overall quality rather than part-for-part comparisons.

When buying my specialized globe sport I tried a Trek bike but the ride was very bad in comparison, so I went with the globe.

Thanks everyone, I am leaning towards specialized now, though one problem is that I would like the specialized sirrus to have all the mounts for racks/paniers just like the Trek FX, does it??

Looking at the pics on the website it looks like it does, but it's tough to tell.

The globe sport I have has all the mounts, and I think the sirrus is the 2009 globe so it should have the mounts.
