Ortlieb backpack Question

Anybody here use the back roller pannier with the back pack attachment? Seems like a cool idea. Would be nice to use my pack on my back sometimes - keep me warmer...

I've read a report of people that toured with it, and they didn't like it. The Arkel Bug has a lot of fans on the forum. Maybe that would work well for you.

I have one. Used it once. Quite comfy, but it is so bulky you may as well carry an extra day pack!

i guess I was wondering if it would be good for riding.

I have one bike with a rack on it and another without

I would like to keep using my ortlieb, but if the backpack is bad - I would rather spend the $ on a new bag rather than a crappy attachment.

thanks for the help guys - appreciate it

The pack is reasonably comfortable when worn - especially if you store it 'flat', rather than rolled up.

I have commuted with a backpack and hated it, if you don't already ride with a backpack I would try it on a ride of 5-6 miles with a change of clothes and a lunch and laptop if you carry one. I found the straps dug in under my arms and cut off the circulation to my hands and my hands would go numb after a little while. I tried a better pack with a chest strap to keep the straps more centered and it was a little better. I then switched to a messenger bag and really like it a lot better, I still get a sweaty back to some degree but no circulation issues. Keep in mind this is my experience, some people really like using a pack. I think a pack is easier if you in a more upright position as well... Just something to think about before dropping a ton of money on an Ortlieb..

that makes sense.

I used to ride with a chrome Ranchero. It was nice, but in the summer, was too sweaty. I have to carry a laptop - so that adds a bit of weight.

How does the messenger style bag handle a laptop? Does it work well? Or does it slide around a lot?
