Since you gave up riding for walking perhaps you need to get back and do some riding since you must be mistaking your longing for nice long rides to hate for people who have to cart their bike around for some reason.

Even after losing alot of weight you'd probably still consider my 2000 miles so far in 08 fat butt obese and lazy when you see my ride on the rack of the car on it's way to my 400k next weekend.

I just hate it when I get the horrible treatment on the road from some of those folks with bikes on the back of their cars. A little respect for a fellow bike rider hello?

A "friend" (OK it's my dad) and I go round and round about this subject. He is a bike transporter. He hauls that baby everywhere. His favorite places to ride are all at least 45 miles from his house.

I live right on the bike trail. The only time I ever haul is when I bring my car in for service. I would not dream of living where I could not just step outside and ride.

He is constantly on me, telling me that I should move someplace that has more jobs, better opportunities, what-have you. I tell him I am happy with my job and riding my bike to work via the bike path. I then suggest that he move closer to where he likes to ride -- especially since he is retired. He says he likes where he lives.

Needless to say this conversation is as endless as it is pointless.

My mountain bikes do lots of rack time, there are no quality trails that are within an hour ride of me, we have to drive to all of them. I also travel to lots of races with my bike.

I must admit some sympathy with your rant though, we have weekly road racing were I live and I'm amazed that people drive out to the start line. The ride out makes the perfect warm up!

I transport mine when I travel 200 miles away to see family. I do this on a regular basis and generally bring my bike so I can ride it while I'm there. I'd also do it to go to a ride that's dozens of miles away, especially a century ride.

I think it's pretty silly to put your bike on the rack to go 3-10 miles. Often I think people do this because they're afraid of street riding. I'm also guessing that the fear is usually entirely irrational and no amount of facilities can fix their dilemma. The only thing that can fix it is a larger section of the population cycling in the streets: Monkey see monkey do.

Every bike should be tired. Two tired, in fact.

I drive my bike to spots so I can ride longer where I want to ride longer, kids in school limit my time to explore. This reminds me when I was a kid we would drive the motorhome an hour to the houseboat to sit in the dock and fish....go figure

I transport my bike in my car all the time! Sorry if sometimes I want to make it a 70 mile ride instead of a 140 mile ride sometimes. I've done all the rides around here 100x, sometimes I need something different.

I think you need like a whopping 25 posts to get bumped up to senior member status. It's something really low anyway. (Not that it even matters.)

I knew it was pretty low. When I first signed up as a newbie, I turned around and I was a senior member.

+1 It is kind of annoying to see people drive 2 miles to get to a group ride, but I can't be responsible for them. Whatever....

But it really is the main reason I hardly ever mountain bike anymore. I still love it, but the need to drive out of town to get to decent trails feels like a huge waste of time and resources. I much prefer to ride the bike out of the garage and go. It's why I became a road rider.

Call me weird, but with auto execs burning cash at an unbelievable rate and asking for more, I can't find it in me to be bothered even a little bit by the presence of someone else's bicycle on someone else's bike rack.

And here I was happy to come up with the idea of bringing a bike (once I get it) along to work for errands or workout at lunch.

Riding it in to work isn't an option as the routes are either freeway or through some of the most dangerous neighborhoods here, and as a beginner, would probably take too long even with better routes.

Well, I'm mad about the fact that there's a car! Since the driver obviously owns a bike, he should just get rid of the car and become car free! Why would you drive a car when you have a bike?

I commute everyday. But in order for me to get to some of the best off road trails , I need to put one of my bikes into my vehicle and drive to the trailhead. There is no way that I can ride my bike to the trails then ride the trails for 4 hours and then ride back home. I think OP is a ****ing moron. I don't understand your mentality.

WOW...go easy! So it bugs him to see bikes not being used (at the time, at least)...doesn't make him any worse than anyone else. No need to get crazy about it and start hurling insults.
