W&OD Trail Status?

Primarily thru Arlington- Vienna?

Custis along Lee Hwy looked ok this morning but am wondering if I can ride out to Tysons tomorrow or give it another day to melt...

I think we're going to need a day or 3 and there will still be ice and snow patches wherever there's shade or an overpass (after the last stormlet, the section in Reston from Whiele Ave to Old Reston Ave was nigh-impassable without studded tires about a full week later).

I'd call the folks at Bikes@Vienna or Spokes Etc., and check this blog (W&OD Trail Report) and their twitter channel. I would also ask on/monitor the BikeWashingtonDC Yahoo group for reports. So far, there are questions but not too much in the way of answers.

The whole hill beside Virginia Ln (from the I66 overpass down to Shreve Rd) is pure ice. I usually ride in the road on that section anyway, but I had no choice tonight.

I rode W&OD today (5 March) from the I-66/Lee Highway intersection out to Vienna, and it was pretty craptacular for much of the way at 6:00 AM. The Virginia Lane hill was a sheet of solid ice. It was much improved for the ride home, but there are still stretches around Gallows Road that will need a couple of days to clear up.

It'll be good after tomorrow I'm sure. You normally ride through there @ 6am? That's about the same time I start out.

Those of you who ride the trail often: would you be so kind as to participate in the trail's Twitter? Updating it is as easy, and simple, as sending an email... we'd greatly appreciate it!

Dude, Twitter sucks There are those of us in IT that the last thing we need or want is yet another method of communication to deal with.

Yeah, and a Crackberry. But I don't run personal stuff through my work account and don't really check the personal one but in the evenings.
