Spring forward

Just a friendly reminder. That commute on Monday is going to be an hour earlier :notamused:

BA Commuter 03-06-09 05:28 PM

Wouldn't that be later? Spring ahead!

Sorry Ben, but I never did like the time manipulation thing!

Fremdchen 03-06-09 06:04 PM

yeah but it also means my ride home in the evening will be in broad daylight, not twilight/night! yay!

DataJunkie 03-06-09 06:06 PM

Sweet! I can now make it home before it gets dark.
Time to start riding the long version of my commute when the weather cooperates.

cyclefreaksix 03-06-09 06:12 PM

I'm pretty much gonna be riding in the dark regardless. However I really do hate the whole time change anyway, screws me up for weeks.

zonatandem 03-06-09 06:18 PM

Moved to AZ to get away from this daylight savings idea. There are still 24 hours in the day.

Apparently spring started early here... so the spring rush has also and we'll be switching to summer hours next week. That means I'll be starting 3 hours earlier... and going from 32h a week to 60. :)

devildogmech 03-06-09 06:24 PM

I live in the wrong Part of IN..... In the middle of the state they don't change.... It's a county by county thing.....Humph...... a PITA if you ask me.

KA Dude! It's never a bad thing to have too much work.... Especially when the economy is this bad.... Is it as bad up there in Kanuckastan?

It's a smiley face not a sad one!

No, earlier. Set your clock ahead an hour and see what happens.

cyclefreaksix 03-06-09 11:14 PM

It's always fun on Monday morning to see who forgets to set their clocks back on Sunday. Always funny, unless it's you who forgot.

I moved to AZ for the weather, the lack of daylight saving time is just icing on the cake.

Daylight savings is fine it's the winters that suck around here.

downtube42 03-07-09 12:47 AM

Just when it's almost light enough in the morning to start my 6:00 am rides, wham they slam the door with DST.

Since they instituted DST a few years ago in IN, power consumption is up, crime against kids waiting for school buses is up, and my mileage is down.

Andy_K 03-07-09 01:30 AM

Woo Hoo! I've been counting down the days for weeks. No more hoping cars see me in the dark in the rain. Now I can hope they see me in broad daylight in the rain. :thumb:

The commute is the least of what I'm thinking about (even though I'll need lights again). I normally wake up at 4. Not looking forward to the change.

Lincoln webster Burnam

When I was growing up a fellow in the next town over in NH refused to follow DST. Everyone just dealt with him. He went on Letterman later in life and I recall one of his quotes about DST:

It makes liars out of clocks and fools out of men.

Uhhhh ... no. Your moving the (clock) time ahead/forward not the (earth) time or at least that's what I hope your doing. 0700 in the morning (after adjustment) will occur at the same (earth) time that 0600 used to occur (before adjustment). 0700 (clock) time is occurring earlier (not later) relative to (earth) time.
Either way, it's gotta be undone in the Fall ... so I'd rather just set it and forget it.

Boudicca 03-07-09 04:26 PM

Too damn early for summer time. I don't mind riding home in the dark. Really prefer not riding in in the dark, when all the drivers are feeling stupid and half asleep.

But I bought two seriously bright lights yesterday, so they damn well better see me.

LAJ 03-07-09 04:33 PM

People seem to drive a lot slower in the am. No less rude, but a little slower. So, I can deal with a little darkness in the morning to keep some extra light at night.

ItsJustMe 03-07-09 06:40 PM

Been looking forward to it. The morning commute has been directly into the sun for the last couple of weeks. I'm much happier riding in the dark than into the sun. My two favorite rides are in the dark and in bright sun on a warm summer day. Next favorite is in the rain. Sun rising or setting, not so much.

Yeah, no kidding. Just the possibility that the pretty young girl in the bar might be my grandmother, or that I might get run over and killed by my truck-driving son before he was born...

...gives me a headache.

DataJunkie 03-09-09 11:31 AM

Happy happy joy joy!
Now if someone would convince the sun to stay down until I arrive at work all year round...
