Newbie need help buying a bicycle.
 

Just couple nights ago someone had jacked my Honda Civic. I have just checked out my local bike store, and they currently have a Schwinn Cutter for $299bucks. Is this a good bike for commuting? Also another bike that caught my attention was a 2008 Felt Curbside for $549.

I take it you don't have a bike? Where are you located? If you're near a decent sized city, check Craigs list. I found my very nice TREK for right at $200 and it just had a tune up and brand new tires..... Yeah baby!

If you are near Chicago, you can borrow my spare till you find "the one".... I don't really use it.

Unless you live in Nebraska or Iowa, you are going to want at least a Couple of gears...... Especially if you are going to have to occasionally haul some stuff around.

Check out Kona..... A post or two above yours had one sudgested, and it looks REAL nice... And not too much more expensive.

my friend i work with is very poor and he bought a bike at target for 90 bucks to commute to work.
what i am saying is that just any bike is adaquate for local commutes.

If your choosing between the Schwinn Cutter and the Felt Curbside.

I would go with the Schwinn Cutter. I have a friend that has the Schwinn Madison he like the bike. In my opinion the Cutter looks nicer. Simpler, also the bike is a tribute to the movie Breaking Away and the Little 500.

Any bike works.

And check out used bikes, too. If you can, get some test rides in to see what feels good to you. Don't fuss too much over the initial bike choice (except on the price, which should be low)....After you've ridden for a while, you'll know what you really want.
