Victory and embarrasment

During my commute I come across three bridges. Two of them aren't very interesting (however one of those two can be a bit of a challenge with headwind and rain), but the third just is a monster. It actually has stairs alongside of it, so you can walk up to the top instead of ride the bike. Today I was in for a challenge. I couldn't be bothered unlocking my shoes from the pedal and thought it just had to be done for a first time once... So I did it, just road it to the top and passed two cyclists on hybrids and one that had the balls to ride up there on granny's old single speed. It was worth a smile.
Though I made it up there, the first time I tried. I slayed the beast, victory is mine!!

Though on my way back home, it was a bit more crowded on the streets. About ten minutes before I got home I had to stop for a red light, but my shoe wouldn't unlock. Not sure what I did wrong, but I just fell over at the point I had stopped. That was quite an embarrasment, but I don't think anyone really noticed. Or at least... I hope...

All together a nice day to ride. About 10 degrees Celsius, wind around 3 Beaufort. Most important of all: I had fun commuting :)

Check that the screws on the cleats are tight. If they work loose, you can find yourself unable to clip out. It can be dangerous.
Congrats on conquering the beast!

Horizontal trackstand? That usually only happens in front of large crowd of wise cracking teenagers so consider yourself lucky.

Screws on the cleats are perfectly tight. I think I just didn't respond quick enough :)

The knee bashed right onto the edge of the sidewalk and has a scratch on it. Only thing is my jeans rub the scratch a bit, but further I'm perfectly fine :)

I know the feeling, I felt like I was in a Marx Brothers comedy film as I got to the top of the hill came to a stop then couldn't get my cleat to break and fell over (luckily onto the grass) on my brand new Tarmac. The only thought I had while going down was ‘save the bike, save the bike’. It’s pretty funny looking back on it now as cars stopped to ask if I was OK.:o

At least your not blaming the pedals.

What province is Dordrecht in?

There is a room in De Hague that is my favorite spot on the planet. I walked into it once purely by accident and quickly became overwhelmed and had to sit and catch my breath. I had seen a line of Japanese tourists standing outside a nondescript building and I followed them (I make it a rule to follow crowds of Japanese tourists because they always lead me to great art). As I suspected the building turned out to be a museum but walking around I didn't see much beyond other museums on this trip, then I stumbled upon this room. On each wall was a Vermeer. OMG! I stayed for a couple of hours and went back the next day.
