a language peeve
Commuting means going back and forth. It doesn't mean traveling by bicycle. People have been saying they took the bus (or whatever) and didn't get the chance to commute. Think about that for a minute, OK?
Teacher man now steps down from his soapbox now. Thank you. |
With all the misspellings of "brake" and "pedal" and such around here, you're worried about abbreviating a phrase? Yeah, it is irritating, but so am I.
I'll join your cause when we beat apostrophe abuse.

Period abuse... that really bugs me...

I'm aware of your concern and I personally try to say bicycle commuting, cycle commuting, cyclommuting, or some such, but it really is a pretty long phrase to type out, and I think to most people around here the "bicycle" is understood, even if it isn't explicitly stated.
Their :innocent: are worse offenses to be handled first. |
Technology has killed grammar, syntax, spelling and vocabulary. Get used to it.
Do they have the same confusion over on the bus commuting forum?
As a friend of mine says, an apostrophe is not a warning that there's an 'S' coming.
Down with apostrophe abuse!
It`s even unthinkabler because text messagizing of the archaic "old folk" writing is supposed to SKIP those pesky unneeded letters and punctuation, not add in more! |
