Time to get a get jacket - what would you recommend?
Granted it's been awhile since I bought a jacket. Curious what you would recommend.
Current have a performance illuminite jacket. Major problem: yellow has faded and is not hi vis any longer. Minor problem:uses velco fasteners instead of snap buttons. What I like: -- good windbreaker -- arm pit zips -- well ventilated in back -- not a clingy plasticy feel -- zip pockets in front -- big stash pocket in back -- stowaway cap if needed for moisture -- either zip or velco front -- full zipper -- long enough so not exposed -- super high vis in low light what I would like improved -- longer lasting colors -- bottom not velco {wrecks some pants} I just started looking and it looks like the new jackets only have zipper and not quick snap. Most are missing either good pit zips or heat vents on back. Don't need waterproof, but definitely need good water resistance as sometimes get caught in showers. Ideal temp range of jacket: 20F - 80F. Thanks |
I like Marmot's Windshirt. No excessive weight and perfect for riding in cooler spring weather. I wear a heavier jacket only when it gets really cold and blustery outside.

I just ordered the J&G windbreaker. I'll let you know if its any good. I didn't get the waterproof breatheable job cause I have a really nice Burley for that. I was mainly looking for a windbreaker.

Interesting. I went to REI and performance and decided I can wait another year, or at least until fall to see if anything new is released. The endura line seems interesting.

What's your price range/expected quality?
I bought a Canari Razor Eclipse with zip-off sleeves last fall on sale for around $30. It's a nice outer layer, high-vis lime green, full zip with vented back, zipper pockets on front and rear. Packs down reasonably small. Extended tail, elastic drawcord at the bottom. Handsome jacket. No hood, though, and not much in the way of retroreflectivity (just the emblems, I think). Nits? I have to fiddle with the zipper to get it started right. Some stitching on one of the sleeve zippers is coming loose and will have to be mended. You will have difficulty finding it in a high-vis color. In fact, when I ordered from Sierra Trading Post, thought I was getting a more subdued yellow torso with black sleeves. Got the one that was all-one-color and hi-vis, instead and was pleasantly surprised. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/Pro...Processed=true |
My wife bought me this for Christmas:
