Working from home this week, off at a tradeshow for half of next week. The good weather will return Thursday next week :-)

Good - please bring the good weather. I'll be biking in tomorrow. Brought in some clothes and such today. Tomorrow morning will be cool but not raining, maybe even sunny. This past Saturday might have reached mid60s - at least it felt that way. Enjoy your trip!

Today was going to be my first day of commuting to work (in Boston) by bike, but I have to be honest, I wussed out because of the weather. I think in the long run, it's an OK strategy - I don't want to get off on the wrong foot. Tomorrow looks nice, though. Just hope I'm not leaping into it too quickly. 10 mile commute each way could be quite a jolt since I haven't been on a bike (except this weekend) since September, and even then I wasn't riding with any regularity. Think I should maybe ease into it?

I'm a big fan of easing into it. For example before I rode to work on a weekday, I rode in on a weekend. Which was good because one tire started to fall apart, so I was able to replace it before I tried to use it to get to work. Good luck tomorrow! :-)

What was wrong with today...we are finally getting rain to wash off the roads. It was warm and only a little wet.

Naw, wimped out, and I needed to pick up a rental car since my main car is in the body shop. I have to find better over-glasses safety glasses to keep rain drops out of my eyes, since my regular Rx sunglasses are too dark for rainy days.

Ha! You know, you're probably right. In fact, based on advice someone else gave in this forum, that was my plan originally. I think I got a little ahead of myself 'cause I'm so giddy about my new bike. I'll either try a "dry run" this Saturday or maybe I'll bike in tomorrow and take the T home, and then the T to work on Wednesday and bike home that night. Or better yet, maybe I'll ease into it by doing some early morning rides just around the 'hood and also go in on a weekend first.

Thanks for the advice.

Here on the cape got to work before the rain, just the usual 20+ wind. Any luck & the rain will be over before I get out.

A thrift store merino wool sweater, REI waterproof ski goves, Novara water resistant windbreaker, and pearl izumi slice thermafleece tights. My upper is warm and dry and my legs are warm and wet. If it's wet and windy when I go home later I'll put on my smartwool balaclava (thin but warm) to keep my entire head warm.

I just got the tights to use on my tour to new york a few weeks ago, and I'm very happy with them so far. They're surprisingly warm in the wet and very comfy.

The combination of everything above is pretty much what i've been wearing all winter(except the tights. before I wore ski tights under normal pants) and makes cold rain biking quite wonderful. To be honest, I don't think of myself as brave so much as prepared. Cold weather biking doesn't have to be miserable-If you dress properly and stay visible it's easy.

Today I wore a cheap polypro t-shirt under my rain shell, and the same hiking pants I always wear for commuting. I managed to avoid riding in any real rain, so I didn't bother with the rain pants or shoe covers. Overall, I thought the commute was pretty pleasant, especially compared to a month ago!

I had no idea my standards were so low!

I rode in today and barely gave the weather a second thought. Had a nice tailwind on the way in and a bit of a bluster on the way home. Other than that just another day in Beantown. No snow on the ground and not cold enough for ice- so I was fine. It would be nice to get a genuinely warm spring day, however.

I was glad for the rain too. It's been a while since we've had any, and all the sand on the side of the road is still lingering.

I actually find that weather like we had yesterday (40's, rainy) is tough to dress for. I try to wear relatively waterproof stuff, or else I'll get cold, but the waterproof stuff is actually too warm for 45 degree temps, so I wind up a sweaty mess (and get wet anyway! ).

I love you guys who go year round. I rode in today. Had to stop twice to adjust front brakes. New drops on the hybrid are awesome but I'll need to adjust my saddle up in front a degree maybe. I'm always over dressed but I wear good stuff and somewhat layered. Thin wool hat under helmet, poly top under a fleece, covered by gay-glo lime-green jacket, downstairs had my new bike shorts! :-) tights and wind-water pants, 2 layers of socks and big mountain shoes. Showered and changed all at the office. Only one cager jerked his wheel toward the curb after he passed me - he was looking right at me in his mirror - nothing accidental about it.

I thought yesterday was a lovely soft day. I rode in through the morning rain in a pair of cords and a shell jacket none the worse for it. With the sunshine today, I wore my full kit--suit and tie. It was just the right temperature to keep from breaking a real sweat. Friday, however, looks to be miserable.
