at what temp do you regularly commute in?

You mean what temps will keep me from commuting? None, so far. Temp doesn't enter into it. Weather doesn't really though if there's been a LOT of snow (more than 6 inches or so) I may decide to either drive or work from home, since most of my route is over back roads that don't get plowed for a day sometimes.

My range so far is from -25*F to 107*F.

For me it's -20* to 110*F so far. any temp will do but I like it to be 70* to 90*F

you guys don't have a temp you MOSTLY commute in?

it just seems that people would hate the warmer weather more. to me at least.

Okay, well, my ideal cycling temperature would be about 65ºF to 70ºF. But there's no temperature that will keep me from riding. And since I ride every day of the year, in all seasons, I don't think it makes sense to say that there's a temp that I mostly ride in.

I do hate very hot weather more than very cold weather. At least with the cold you can bundle up, but there's nothing you can do about the heat. Of course, the coldest I've ever ridden in is about 0ºF, so people who ride in REALLY cold temps might have a different perspective.

I think you have to live in the tropics to have a steady commuting temp

I mostly commute in whatever temperature it is out that day; can't pick the weather! I ride every day (with the odd snow or ice out) but temperature doesn't stop me. Toronto weather can range about -25C to +35C.
Cold weather you can put on more layers; the heat is harder to deal with - sometimes a hot sticky day involves a change of clothes and some watering down despite a gentle pace.

I voted 40 degrees.

9 months of mornings in the upper 30s and 3 months in the mid 70s to low 80s. That works out to an average temperature in the low 40s.

I don't think I have the proper data to answer that question. In the winter, my average commute is around 35 degrees. In the summer, it's probably closer to 75. For the year, who knows? Temperature range is probably the relevant question.

For me, I haven't found a day that's been cold enough to keep me from commuting by itself, but it hasn't been below 27 this year. Below freezing and raining will keep me off the road, because that doesn't happen often enough to justify the equipment necessary to handle it.

Above 90, my wife starts telling me I should ride. Above 100 I started acquiescing.

Yesterday it was 35 on the way in and 72 on the way home.

Year round commuting for me. 35* to 117*. Rain or shine. Mostly shine. Never ending, energy sapping sunshine.

I prefer about 85 degrees. I don't need any extra clothing, just lots of water. My muscles are warmed up easilly. I ride faster at 85 than 40.

Yeah, that. The question doesn't make sense for those of us who live in temperate climates -- even a non-year-rounder will commute in a pretty large range of temperatures.

I commute everday in whatever Mother Nature throws at me.

Even on the cooler days, I have learned to hate the sun.

I commute when I don't have to drive, but when it is topping 100 on the way home (uphill) I start dreaming about the car...:rolleyes:

It's funny. Since moving to Oregon, I've learned to love the rain. What you need there in Arizona is about three months where you never see the sun, then you'd learn to love it. At least, the three months without rain are what remind me that I love the rain.

I voted 60. We rarely get below 40 or above 80 here (official average Dec & Jan low is 45 and official average Aug & Sep high is 74) so it is usually in the 50s or 60s during my commute.

When it's above freezing. But I don't commute regularly during the summers, so that brings my average temperature down.

Tomorrow it'll be 35*F in the morning and 75*F in the afternoon. I ride all year round which means an almost equal spread of days between about 20*F and 80*F, with some -20*F and some 100*F thrown in.

The correct answer is "whatever temperature it is when I get on the bike."

It seems like you're saying that the temperature might have something to do with whether I ride my bike or not. That does not compute. I get on the bike to go to work, and I have to go to work every day all year. I suppose I could drive, if I wanted the day to suck.

Hard to do an average... anything from -25 C to 40 C. I picked 50 F (in the teens C if I guesstimated right) because I ride more in the spring/summer/fall than in the winter.
