hi there, is there any one who takes a laptop with him/her to work? but not in a backpack, on a rack or pannier maybe...thanks

If you do a search, it's been covered lots of times. Pretty split between those that carry in a backpack so the laptop doesn't get jarred around and those that put it in panniers. I'm in the backpack crowd personally.

As CCrew noted, it's pretty split. I use a backpack, but there are panniers specifically built for laptops.

I had a HP Compaq nx6110 (15 inch 4:3) on my back once and it wasn't comfortable. If I had a full rack and not a seat post rack, I'd probably have one of the ones linked below.

Pannier (Ortlieb Back Roller Classic) it is for me. No sleeve or anything. Hasn't done any damage so far and my back is much happier than it used to be in the backpack days.

Just have a good backup strategy and your worries will be gone.

There's always the Arkel commuter also .. Not cheap but seems pretty good.. Planning on getting one myself shortly.

Laptop sleeve into the Delta Metro Elite pannier. I"ve carried it in a normal pannier, but I also added some styrafoam to fill out the bag and keep the laptop "tight" in there. Did the backpack thing once. Hated it.

I use a Jansport Firewire to carry my notebook, cloths, food, etc. Commute is 13mi. roundtrip, mostly flat. I have been looking for a pannier solution because the backpack is very hot for must of the summer when afternoon temps get above 90.

I just drop mine in the pannier. Never had a problem.

I used to use an Arkel Utility Basket, but now I use a Carradice SQR Slim. In either case, I still put my laptop in a sleeve. No problems with using either one.

I would say it might be a function of how long your commute is. The longer ride you have, the more uncomfortable a backpack can be. I have a short commute, 2.5 miles, but even that is to long for a back pack. I use a laptop sleeve inside a pannier and it works very well. I'd rather not have weight on my shoulders.
