Short-n-Shallow drop bar
 

I'm looking to get a short reach/drop bar, and want to know if I'm missing any obvious choices. There's the Salsa Poco, the new Ritchey Biomax, and perhaps others.... Anyone have a favorite?

I use PRO PLT Compact bars and really prefer them to the Eastons that came stock on my Kona JtS. I can now ride on the drops for a lot longer.

FSA has a few popular models, and a lot of people seem to love the On-One Midge - although they're not really traditional drop style bars.

Ergosum and FSA compact (several varieties) the the go-to bars right now. The PRO bar seems similar, but not as widely distributed (in the US). The Easton SLX3 is similar, but only comes in carbon.

I like these because they create a flat transition into the hood. The other bars you mentioned don't do this so much.

My ideal bar would be something like a flared ergosum - short reach, short/flat transition to hood, and a little flare for wrist clearance. I don't think it exists though.

I put a set of the Salsa Short and Shallows on my wifes Mixte and she loves em. Seems like she always rides in the drops no matter what.

A lot of the above bars are similar short drop with a kind of elliptical curve, looks really good.

Last year I broke my ITM's, switched to FSA Wing Pro Compact Shallow drops. I LOVE Them. I can't say enough about them. By far my favorite bars I've ever ridden. The flats tops are great and I can stay in the drops all day if I feel like it. Very similar to the 3T Ergosum, 9mm less reach, 3mm less drop, but with flat tops. Only downside is to both is that they are 31.8 which means you might have to replace your stem. They're stiff too.

I have the Short 'N Shallows on my bike (can't remember if they come in two "grades," e.g. lighter and heavier, so if they do, I have the heavier ones. ;)) They're great!

Yea. Moto-ace is the heavier designation.

I have a bit of experience with the 3 you mention. I have been riding the Ritchey Pro BioMax on one of my bikes for over a year, and I like the profile of it very much. I am a bigger rider, though, and if I ride in the drops, there is some perceptible flexing of the bars that doesn't exactly inspire me to confidence. If you're average to small in size, I don't think this would be such an issue.

I also have a new set of the Salsa Poco that I will install to replace the BioMax when I next get around to tearing into the bike. I have owned Salsa bars in the past, and being a bigger guy, they work best for me. They are stronger, beefier, and, yes, heavier - but that is by design.

Just last night, a female friend brought over her recent eBay acquisition for help in getting it up and running. It was a small Teasdale custom frame that came with the Short & Shallow bars. I liked them -- very nice profile. Being that the bike was a 43cm frame, I thought the previous owner showed a good sense of humor in choosing "Short&Shallow" for the bars.

Salsa Poco. Bontrager VR-bend bars come in a really short and shallow version as well.

Easton Equipe Pro, and various other non-anatomic bend Eastons. I like them for the ease of setting up the brakes so you can reach them from the drops easily.

How short and how shallow? Are you thinking like these?

~20mm shallower drop than I had, still trying to figure out the stem angle (went to shallower stem, considering flipping it now)

Thought I'd share. FSA Wing Pro Compact Shallow - attached. Flat tops, + short reach + shallow drop = comfy.
