Commuting in Augusta, GA??
Anyone out there commuting in Augusta. I am there next week on business and am renting a bike to commute. I plan to travel Laney Walker Blvd out to Sand Bar Ferry Rd across the river.
Interested in that route, esp. safety on the road. I live in a similar-sized city in Wisconsin, but we have decent bike lanes and bike trails.
Thanks

I started back riding and commuting in Augusta about 7 years ago... There's no bike lanes or bike paths as I remember save for the Augusta Canal trail and it doesn't go where you want to go.
The streets are fairly bike friendly out that way, and I've ridden Sand Bar Ferry many times without a lot of problems. Check with the folks at Outspokin' Bike Shop (on Walton Way), and they can give you the skinny on what the best routes are.

Thanks for the advice Tom. I'm renting the bike from Outspokin' - looking forward to it.

I commute in Augusta GA. Sand Bar Ferry is fine, and Outspokin' has group rides that go out that way leaving from their shop. If you're staying in the Laney Walker area and heading out Sand Bar Ferry, I would cut across to Broad St and go out SBF from there.

That area of town isn't half bad to get around in. You should be fine.
I really enjoyed Broad Street when I lived there. The used book store is awesome.
