Okay so it takes me about 30 minutes to get from my house to my office. Since I didn't fit into the other two threads, here's one for the rest of us.

My record is 12 minutes flat door to door for 4 miles. My "laid back" route is 5 miles and takes me 18 minutes at a reasonable pace.

4-5 miles, depending on the workplace. Usually takes me between 15 and 20 minutes. I really like this distance, 'cause I can extend it if I wanna on nice days, and it's pretty short when I've got a blizzard to contend with.

Oh... and my commute is about 7 miles each way.

When I first started last year, 45-50 minutes was the norm. I wasn't in any particular hurry today but still made it in 30 minutes flat. I think my best time was something like 24 minutes and into a stiff headwind too (I was running late and had to be somewhere).

ah... you beat me to it. So did the under 10min thread. On my way home I thought that I should start a thread for under 45min-ers.

I was really border line to the over 45min.
I'm about 7miles to work but I stop near the end to get a cup of coffee. I drink for 5mins or so. On the way back, I always take a longer route by the river in boston so it ends up being 10miles or sometimes I just pass my house and go further west into the suburbs b/c I dont have to worry about time or getting sweaty.

I don't use fenders. I use a backpack. I just recently bought flat fixers... but thats more for the longer rides 20+. I always figured I can grab a cab or jump on the subway if I get a flat on my way to work. I used to commute 3miles and thought that was too short. I like the distance I have now.
Just upgraded to clipless spd with mtb shoes for 2 weeks now after 2 years. Really liking it, haven't fallen yet.

5-6 miler each way here too... how long it takes to ride depends on how many times I hit my alarm "snooze"
Right now we've been having lovely spring/summer sunshine weather here in southern sweden and my commute (with parts through the forest) has been joyful the last week or so

4-5 miler here. Just started commuting last week. First day it was 28 minutes. I'm down to 19 now after 8 days of commuting. Of course, there are about 10-15 stoplights on the major roads I commute on. If I miss one light, I seem to miss them all!

7 miles almost exactly here - takes me in the 30-35 minute range depending mostly on wind. Well over half the ride on MUP and through open space along the river so the wind blows hard when it blows. Time coming down slightly now that I'm getting in better shape and starting to shed some pounds. Unfortunately, a broken spoke suffered on Wednesday afternoon commute home will keep me off the road until I find time to get to the LBS to get it fixed up (the spoke was on the drive side rear wheel; spoke broke off at the hub) GRRRRR!

Oh well, about to go on vacation for two weeks so wouldn't have been riding anyway. Wheel fix = #1 priority on return. I was on the metro this AM and looked longingly at the MUP where I could see it from the train. Thought to myself, "Wish I cooped up in here! I could be out there riding my bike to work instead!"

This week my girlfriend has commuted with me a couple days, so that six miles takes nearly an hour, hehehe.

5.5 Miles, closer to 23-25 minutes normally. I ride MUP, and there are a few street crossings that can take forever. And then I ride along the Mall (DC), so if the weather is nice I have to take it slow and dodge tourists.

3.5 miles and it takes 15min if I hit most of the lights. I got in in 13-14 minutes once but I was going all out and made ALL the lights. Which is a miracle. there are about 10 to deal with. The first half of the queensboro bridge makes it or breaks it.

I grind 2 miles each way, but I stop at the Post Office and the commissary just about every day on the way back home. It usually takes me 10 minutes, I mean 11 minutes.

Riding a single speed commuter keeps my range of speed pretty limited. My 7+ mile commute average door to door is always just under 30min. On my road bike I've done it in 22.

I hear you on the tourons, er, I mean tourists, on the Mall. I don't have to go along the Mall as much as across it near WWII Memorial, and even in that short distance I encounter enough tourists to know what you mean. Part of being in DC, I suppose, but a nuisance at times nonetheless, especially when they are walking towards you, see you coming from far away, but still seem to refuse to stop walking 4 abreast and blocking the whole sidewalk/path. Kinda makes you crazy...

I ride in the city for something like 3.5 miles each way, and it takes me 20 minutes on a slow day, maybe 12 minutes if I'm fast AND lucky with traffic and lights.

This is a reason to have more then one bike. If one needs to go to the shop for get fixed you can keep riding. Or you can takes parts temporarily from one to the other.

5.3 miles if I use the trail (much nicer) 4.7 if it's only road (way more stressful)... yet to get enough times to compare the two... especially since I really don't like the all road route.

Uhhhh why do you need a thread? Why do they need a thread for that matter? There's a "how was the commute today" sticky that seems to do just as well to say "hey I'm here".

My commute is 5 miles and averages right around 20 minutes each way. I just passed the one year mark for commuting and can't beleive I waited so long to start. I originally intended to only commute when I had daylight both ways but once I got started, there's no way I would let a little darkness force me into a cage.
