The driver was doing what?!
 

I look at alot of drivers of vehicles during my commute/bike rides, more so then walking or driving because I want to make sure they are aware of me. But I see alot of people on the phone, nothing new. But today I get a close buzz from a driver and through his backwindow I can see that he has his portable nav on his steering wheel and he is fiddling with it.... not so crazy or funny... but made me think.

There must be crazy/funny/etc stuff that someone in BF has seen...

anyone?

women doing they're make up in the rearview mirror whilst driving makes me a tad wary...

Eating a bowl of soup, with a spoon. Although a man on a motorcycle a few years ago was talking on his cell phone and smoking a ciggy at the same time. It would be hard enough without the ciggy.

A lady reading a novel on top of the steering wheel. The thing was at least three hundred pages thick. I was that close to her.

Years ago I used to see a woman reading a newspaper on the highway every morning.....

i've found that a slap to the side of the car makes them attentive.

I actually saw a guy brushing his teeth once. It was on the highway, so I spent the whole day wondering where he spit. Also seen shaving (electric razor) on more than one occasion, along with the women applying makeup, people reading, texting, etc.

not while driving, but i ride through a pretty nice park once in a while, and near dusk, its not rare to see guys sitting in their parked cars getting the old "bravo juliet" from their lady friends.

Nothing I see drivers doing phases me any more. It's so commonplace to see someone eating breakfast, reading their email on their PDA-phone, smoking a cigarette, and trying to drive in morning rush-hour that I just stopped being amazed by it.

Yea I know what you mean. I havent seen anything that was surprising. But that got me thinking into if others have seen something out of the ordinary~

I saw a guy eating cereal with a spoon the other day.

I cannot bike commute, as I have to be mobile during the day, able to carry boxes of product etc, but I still see some crazy stuff going on in cars around me.

Yesterday, I am pretty sure I saw a guy either tweezing or scissoring his ear and nose and eye hair, while driving 70 mph in the rain. Fashion before fatality I always say.

It didn't happen on the bike, but I was behind a lady in a white car one afternoon when a taxi traveling in the other direction on the other side of the street performed a very sudden u-turn right in front of her. It was a close call, but do you know what the lady in the white car did?

She let go the wheel, covered her face with her hands, and didn't stop her car...

I'm not sure if that's horrible or awesome...

I don't see this in western NY but in Houston it was fairly common to see someone stuck in traffic having a beer on a Friday. At first it was really disconcerting but I realized they were just getting out of work and it was probably their first or second drink. Later in the evening, though, it was prudent to stay far far away from the roads as the drunks navigated home from the bars. Police seemed pretty indifferent.

+1. Or a penny to the windshield. Although I reserve that one for drivers who buzz me or cut me off...

I've seen a woman doing a crossword puzzle, which seemed rather dangerous, but the strangest I've heard of is someone driving while playing a trumpet. Yeah - I'm not kidding. I assume they must be running late and trying to warm up before they get where ever it was they needed to play their trumpet at...

A guy picking his nose and then eating it

I knew a guy that did this when he lost control of his car in a turn. I asked him about his accident, and he told me he covered his eyes so he wasn't sure what happened. I was stunned.

I saw a guy fiddling with his GPS the other day. I was driving, and I was trying to figure out why he had virtually stopped in the middle of traffic. My first guess was phone, but then I saw him playing something stuck to his a-pillar. This went on for almost a mile and 2 traffic lights. He finally made a turn, so i don't know if he ever started driving again. When I first got my prius, I soon realized the gps was the most dangerous distraction in the car. I don't look at it unless i have to do so.

Yesterday I saw a strange one, a guy passes me, and starts weaving in front of me. Apparently someone called him, and he was trying to fish his phone out of his back pocket. At least he pulled over eventually.

I used to see Utahans reading books on Highway 89, which they love to cite as the most dangerous road in Utah. Wouldn't be so dangerous if Utahans could drive.

I think the guy drinking beer in the car is awesome (in a bad way of course).

I once had a car swerving around a lot so I kept my distance. When he finally stopped at a red light, I caught up to him and saw that he was sitting there eating a Carl's Jr. "gets all over the place" burger that really was getting all over the place.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Unfortunately, makeup, shaving, reading, crosswords are a daily sight.

I saw someone on the highway talking on their phone, applying make up and something else.

Yes, three things. The passenger was holding the phone to the driver's ear.

Needless to say, I slowed down and waited for the wreck to happen.

At the risk of starting an argument, though shaving with a razor sounds odd, I think it's safer than talking on the cell phone or texting.
1. Unlike texting, you don't have to look away from the road - your eyes are on the road at all times.
2. Unlike talking to someone on a cell phone, there's no pull to immediately respond to what they're saying or pay much attention. Like you can shave by touch while you're on the straight away with no other traffic, then stop shaving as you pull onto the freeway on ramp, then keep shaving once you're in a line and at speed. On a cell phone you can't just ignore what the other person is saying without offending them or disrupting the conversation, so you end up trying to listen to them and merge into freeway traffic at the same time.

Ipod or mp3 player is JUST as bad as the GPS.
