Fender Recommendation?

Have a 2007 Specialized Hardrock Sport with Schwalbe Big Apples 26x2.35. Would really like to have less water/road funk coming up at me from the front tire. As you can probably tell, weight isn't a big issue for me, well it is for me, but not on my bike.

I run a cross bike with Planet Bike Hardcore Hybrid fenders. They provide excellent coverage and are durable. I take my bike on and off road and ride a 20 mile r/t commute. I got my pair for $30. I can recommend them. However, looking at your specs I don't think the mountain bike equivalents will fit your tires. In fact none of the planet bike full fenders are spec'd to fit anything over 2.25" They have a grunge board set and "flippers" for more coverage that will fit your bike. Looks like the flippers might be the way to go to really cut down on the funk spray from the front tire. While I can't recommend them directly, I can say that I am very happy with the quality, performance and price of my planet bike products. (not a sales rep, btw)

Personally I like those clip on fenders, I got the ones made by Topeak. The rear one goes on the seatpost ,the front one I had to modify to fit my rigid fork. They work well for me. There are lot's of different ones available. I don't like full fenders because most are too narrow for my tires, I run maxxis hookworms and because my bike has track ends so wheel removal with full fenders would be difficult.

I agree the PlanetBike Cascadias are worth considering. (Also available in all black.)

The 0.1 inch extra width of the tire makes a difference only to perfectionists. I've run 38mm tires under 35mm fenders without issue or worry.

A close-fitting full fender will cut down significantly on spray off the front of the tire. I've never used a flipper type, but it seems that it wouldn't reduce the spray back in my face at speed.

No matter what fender you have, no matter how much wheel coverage the fender gives you, the splash protections is immensly improved with a mud flap.

Mud flaps are fun too because there are so many different kinds. You can get mud flaps with the chrome naked ladies on them like an 18 wheeler, or mud flaps with Holstein cow patters or cheeta patters, or even buy a new-old-stock original from the 1950's or 1960's complete with jewels.

OR, you can make your own ala Heinz or your favorite condiment...

I've got Planet Bike Cascadia fenders and they work great and look nice. With your size tires, I would get them at least 45 mm wide. I got mine on eBay for only $30 plus shipping.

I really like my SKS chromo fenders. Though not for a 2.35, SKS may have something that will fit.
