nice ride in but apparently I broke a couple spokes. Took it easy on the way home but made it no problem. Three spokes in three weeks is a pretty piss poor record. :(

Bought the wheel on clearance at REI. I hope they will just give me a store credit and let me move on to a different wheel as they no longer carry the same style and I would like to upgrade the front to match.

Got lucky today as it rained almost all day save for the time we were riding to and from school but that did not save me from getting drenched thanks to Fedex... passed one of their trucks just as it hit a deep pothole and got a free shower.

They really do deliver.

I over did it yesterday riding 3 hour jaunt. Today, my legs were stiff and wanted to coast a lot more than I should have. Thunderstorms threatened, but I made it home in the knick of time.

My commute to work today was nice. Overcast, high 60's. JUST beat the rain. As i finished locking up she started to come down. After work I was a baby and took the subway, I didn't have any rain gear on me and I wasn't as lucky as I was earlier in the day.

Perfect weather, seen a couple of other riders, one was a Ninja, no lights, black clothes (no kidding) pulled up behind me at a light with aobut 10 lanes of traffic, as I went through the light I was dodging bumps so I did not look back for a few seconds but he was gone. Not kidding. The other guy was normal, well light etc. but I got stuck at another light so I did not get to talk to him. Garbage truck and port a potty empty day.

The roads were wet from overnight rain, but not problem coming in. Wonderful temps at 16 C ( 62 F). Yesterday, while cutting through the local college campus, one fellow came at me from around a corner in the wrong lane, apparently the guy in front of him was not going fast enough. That college drives me crazy, I pass through there every day and never see anyone on a bicycle. At least half the kids are within 10 miles, if not within 5. On top of that, the
college just razed another field to put in about 100 more parking spaces. This is where the ironic part comes in. The college gets state funds, but apparently hasn't read the 2030 blueprint for transportation, which all but plans to get a significant amount of people out of their cars and into some other form of transportation, bikes included. I figure the time to start is now, and colleges would appear to be low hanging fruit.

A nice ride this morning, if a bit damp. Overcast, misting, in the low 50sF, and a light headwind. Lots of squirrels running around. On 5 miles of MUP, I saw a exactly one cyclist going the other way, one runner, one dog walker, and one town parks & rec pickup truck. The driver pulled way over, stopped, and gave me right of way. I waved.

I read the post about inline skaters. I followed one at 15MPH once. When he realized I was behind him, he apologized for blocking the trail. :D I said something like, "Dude you're going fast enough that I don't need to pass you." We were passing other cyclists. I was impressed.

Well, orthopedic surgeon said I could ride @ 6 weeks post surgery. 4 weeks is close to six, right? Took a leisurely commute in... It hurt, but was certainly below the bad pain threshold. Now to see how long it takes to stop.

Was feeling too much like a lazy slug.... I had to do it. :P

Muggy ride in this am, temps in low 70's. Hopefully the rain will hold off this afternoon for a dry ride home.

The weather has turned incredibly hot and humid in NC for this time of year. We are having August in early June, with morning lows in the 70s and afternoon highs in the mid-90s. I hate it. On Monday and Tuesday, a cold front came through and the weather was perfect for two days. Ironically, although it felt so cool and dry those days, the high and low temperatures were almost exactly equal to the long-term averages. Welcome to global warming.

Other than my alarm clock not going off and taking off an hour later than usual----a perfect commute this morning. Sunny and low humidity!

Today was the first time I tried to commute by bicycle. It was a 10 mile ride and ridiculously hilly, I guess I don't notice it as much when I am in a car. A little worse than I expected and I arrived to work sweatier than I wanted to. I am planning an alternate route home. It was good though. I feel like I've accomplished something today and I've already had a few co-workers commend me for biking in.

Cool, light rain. Apparently we're in some kind of drought around here, but you'd never know it with the number of wet days we've had in the last few weeks. I shouldn't complain - saves me from having to water my lawn. Took it slow this morning, partly by choice, partly due to trail conditions.

10 miles one-way is a pretty long commute if you're new to it. DON'T GIVE UP! My first commute years ago was 5 miles and I was in excellent shape when I started, but it was still harder than I expected. If you stick with it you'll look back on these first commutes and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Well, the ride home wasn't very enjoyable. I made it about 4.5 miles before the crank arm for on of my pedals broke off. I had bought a Topeak Alien II Multi-tool to bring with me for this sort of thing, but it didn't have the right sized allen wrench on it for the bolt. The bike has less than 100 miles on it too, so I was pretty disappointed something like this would happen already. I had to catch a ride the rest of the way home on my first day of commuting :(

Sorry to hear that. Did you get the bike from a bike shop? You should take it back to them and have them fix/ replace it.

Things will get better. It takes a while to dial in the equipment, make sure the bike is sound mechanically and a few others things (like... what you need to do to be safe on your route...). Just bear with the initial few bumps in the road and you'll undoubtedly find it super fun!

It was a good ride in, and the weather perfect. The temps are still around 15 C ( 60 F). Yesterday, I went out to start the car, because it sits allot, and it didn't start. I got a hot shot and took it in for checkup. I try to remember to start it up every now and then, but sometimes it just escapes me. At retirement in 2 years, I will just donate it. Poor public transportaton and my bike should work out to get me where I need to go.

Cool and comfortable this morning in KC. Shaved 5 minutes off my time and actually made it up all the hills but the last one, good cool-down anyways. I think the child carrier was catching alot of wind not so with the milk crate. Ride home going to be a doozy 90+ temps plus humidity.

Another hot one expected today with a high in the 90s, but the humidity is much lower. My morning commute was great due to the drier air, and it felt almost chilly despite temperatures around 70 F. My legs are tired, however, from riding 9 out of the past 10 days, and it will feel good to take a break tomorrow. I'll be kayaking, which is a nice change of pace from cycling.

Took it really easy this morning; on yesterday's ride home I tweeked my left knee a little. Not sure what I did but, I think I pushed a little too hard, in too big a gear while starting from an intersection. I gently rode on it until I hit the 14th Street bridge then, I had to stop, stretch it a little bit and continued on. It hurt the rest of the way home but, after some Advil, felt better by this morning. It's still a little tender but, not too bad. I'll do the Crystal Ride on Sunday and will let my knee determine how many laps I do. I'll continue taking Advil today/tomorrow in the hopes that the pain goes away entirely, we'll see. Also, my new route takes me right past the DC water front. I told another cyclist yesterday that that is either the best smelling part of my ride or the worst. I think it'll get much worse as summer progresses and I continue to ride past all the dumpers full of seafood. I love seafood but, months of this (overwhelming) stench could turn me off to it. That would be a shame. Should be a nice ride home this afternoon.

Last ride in of the work week! Rode everyday for the first time this week and my legs are ready for a day off. Planning my Sunday ride for the newspaper, going to try a for 25 miles. Have a nice weekend all!

Barring any unforeseen circumstances that would prevent me from riding home, I'll be 5 for 5 this week commuting by bike, which is a first this year. It was finally a nice sunny dry day, so I rode my road bike. Boy do I love that thing...it's so fast compared to my other commuter. Smelled bacon on the way in, and later on a bakery. Mmmmmm.

I think today makes the first week since last year that I've gotten my lazy butt on the bike for 2 days in the same week. Today's ride in was nice, temps around 60 and a quick ride. It's only supposed to be around 70 going home, so it should be a decent ride (a bit more humid).
