Perfect day today. Actually not a bad week weather wise although it still is a bit cool around here. Did a 4 out of 5 for the week.
No major incidents, actually had a guy in a car appologize for having his car sticking out to far in the bike lane while he was waiting to make a right turn. Also saw a guy on his commuter riding along in bare feet!! Looked like that may be a bit painful. |

Yesterday, I awed some high school guys with how fast I was going during one stretch. They made to catch up to me at a light to express how cool they thought it was (they were on BMX bikes).

Today I rode my TT-fied Trek (aerobars + forward seatpost + rear wheel cover = poor man's TT bike). Going to try and get my fitment right on the way home tonight. Already in 20 minutes this morning, I'm pretty sure I need a lower/longer stem.
|
Ride in and back all good. Stupid headwind on the way back of course. I found a bouquet of flowers on my way home though. :D
|
Rode 20 km today, to downtown and back.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKCnHWas3HQ :) Reading that made me think of that song!
I had a nice sunny ride today. I took the scenic route. Surprisingly, I didn't see a lot of other cyclists. One less car, indeed ... |
Easy ride in today, 60 F (16 C). Although, this weekend down on the eastern shore, where everthing is flatter made me jealous. Flat riding is really nice and nothing seems to tire. Hills are a fact of life, but I can do without them.
|
overcast; 50s; I was slow with average speed dipping to 15.3; left ankle has been bothering for a week or two; it could use an epsom soak and a wrap; maybe 2nite
|
~60F this morning. Wind light & variable. Lots of those cottony things floating around in the air.
On Saturday I cleaned up my bike. I forgot my spokes were shiny. :D The cassette is all clean and nice. The chain looks new. I had it soaking in pro-link over night. |
Easy ride this morning. A little warm, mid-70s, but enough of a breeze to keep it fresh. A brief encounter with a dog but I saw him before he noticed me, I dismounted and walked about 100 feet before he wandered off in another direction and I got back on.
I did a hard (for me) 46 mile breakfast ride Saturday, so my 7 mile commute is nothing in comparison. |
Tough ride in: sore legs and really tired-a real struggle. I did a 30 miler yesterday with the focus on hills training, well, one hill in particular. It's not a huge hill but fairly steep (steeper than anything I face on my commute) and the 30 miles weren't a problem but, I rode the hill 6 times in succession while staying seated and in my big ring. I'd crest the hill, rest for a minute or two, and do it again. I wasn't puking or anything but, it's more than I've been used to doing. Legs did ok but I'm really feeling it this morning. Then, our son had us up several times last night; allergies (lots of coughing/crying). So, I'm exhausted today with rubbery legs. I took it easy, spinning and coasting quite a bit. Kept my speed around 15/16 mph. for most of the ride. I'll focus on recovery in the early part of the week and am planning another training ride next weekend. I think I've finally figured out how to incorporate an early weekend training ride while managing: household chores, a baby, the wife, etc-looks like it'll be a good summer.
|
The end of my commute is a 1.5 mile climb. Halfway up it it felt like someone was holding a brake closed on my rear wheel (and since it is a fixed gear with no rear brake, I had no clue what was wrong). The road doesn't have a big shoulder, so I just pushed through and got to the top. When I got there I saw I didn't tighten the bolts enough when I put my rear wheel back on last night and it slipped. I rode 3/4 of a mile uphill with my rear tire rubbing against my frame...I guess that is one way to get a workout though

First ever commute by bike this morning. I figured it'd be worth doing and gives me another excuse to ride the Raleigh. 16.8 miles in, 58 minutes to get to work and felt pretty good - 34 and 27 milers over the weekend. Normally a 25-30 minute drive(14.5 miles), but gotta take a longer route with the bike. I think I could get used to this commuting by bike thing. Great way to start my day :) Now I just gotta get home ;)

50sF felt brisk, must be turning to summer.
|
Got a flat right out of the barracks from some ass who felt the need to throw a beer bottle in the streets. didnt see it til the last second, I was about a 1/4 way down when i started hearing deflation, walked the bike the rest of the way. I had to ride it to the bike shop as walking just too waay to long for my break so I pretty much kept the handle bars straight w/ my fingers to keep weight off of it and went slowly. at the bike shop, found I was wrong about my tire diameter.. reset my speedo accordingly, and Turns out I ride faster then I thought :D
|
i rode in a steady mist this morning...i was pretty wet when i arrived at work but i was happy, my shorts and socks are hanging in the closet near my desk drying out for the day
|
My second day commuting to work! About 60 and overcast. I can take MUP almost all the way. Left a little late so when I hit street I just starting grinding as fast as I could (not very, but hey, it's something). When I get to work I totally feel awake now. It is really nice.

Flat on the way in today, blah! Rear again, even though I put one of those tire liner thingies in after my last rear flat. Oh well, I'm getting Indy-Pit-Crew fast at swapping tubes these days. I had a bit of a load on my pannier, and those CO2 cyclinders don't give full pressure, so I was a little squishy back there for the rest of the ride.
But regardless, great morning and great ride. |

I rode the fixed gear to work this morning. I was in a tinkering mood this weekend so I threw a big ring on my FG. I went from 43x14 to a 52x16. It looks massive, but it's funny that when you enter the numbers into Sheldon's gear calculator, you find that it's only a difference of 5 gear inches or so. Great for when there's no wind. Except when there is.... |

Alright! Another Marathon owner. I put in 46 miles on my Marathon on Saturday. I used it as my primary commuter for about 3 months at the beginning of the year. I've since adjusted my fleet and took the rack off the Marathon so now I just ride it on the weekends. (My primary commuter is my '94 Nishiki hybrid, plus I have a '66 Raleigh 3-speed and a '73 Schwinn Varsity with baskets.)
Caloso, thanks! Felt good to just let the car sit there in the driveway this morning :D |
My first post to this thread... A (fortunately) unremarkable but gorgeous ride in today (high 50s). As a bonus, I had a tailwind both to and from work :)

You bet; love that Marathon. It's my only road bike, but I can live with adding/removing rack as needed. Hope to get something new soon for non-commuting rides and make this Marathon more of just a commuter/lazy Sunday ride bike. After I get home from work today, that'll be 1200 miles for the year on the old girl :)

Excellent. How long have you had her? My Marathon is my best road bike (the other being the Varsity). I pulled her out of a dumpster just before Christmas last year.

Ride in not good but I did manage to bike home...was worried my wrist/shoulder wouldn't hold up. Typing this on crackberry smarts though. Hopefully I will be able to ride my road bike from the shop to my bf's place and wash it there.

I have great rain gear. Too bad I left it at home. Had to ride home in a downpour. I was drenched to the skin by the time I got home.
|
^ Doh!
OMG it's taking for-freaking-ever for them to finish working on my road bike! They told me call back in an hour and check again. :O |
