Nice commute in to work today along the Crosstown Greenway. It's been a few weeks since I did this route, and it's definitely colder in the mornings now. I can almost justify a jacket! I followed another cyclist through the Brunette river trail and was glad to have the extra lights.

Last day of cool mornings according to the weather forecast, but I soaked it all up today... temps in the 60s, sunny... a pretty perfect AM for a commute. Looks like Indian summer from now through the end of the week (highs back into the 90s), I've been trying to enjoy the cooler temps the last couple days.
Brand spankin' new Alivio rear derailluer should arrive tomorrow UPS. I'm psyched. Hope to stick that puppy on tomorrow night. (The one I got last weekend off a donor bike at the co-op is all wonky and shifts erratically...) |
50F and gray. Clammy.

Love the Moose avoidance...I had to swerve to miss an opossum this am....unusually warm this morning with a strong South wind (tailwind thankfully)...switched back to short sleeves. Turned 3000 miles as I arrived at the plant Today. Another great day to bike commute!

I'd prefer moose dodging to what's going on this week. The UN General Assembly's in town and traffic is snarled due to all the street closures. I've been dodging peds, cops, cabs, cops giving cabs the 'wtf' look, open doors, big cement blocks, salmoning cyclists, slower cyclists and more cabs. It's gonna be nuts all week.

Bowling for Diplomats!

Very nice in AM, suppose to be 90 something this afternoon though.

Had a great ride into work today. The 20 km flew by quickly even though I was carrying a second pannier (removed my trunk bag) with my kickboxing equipment for after work today. I ride 40 km then do kickboxing in the evening. :-)
No real drama on the roads today thankfully. About 13C\55F, dry with some leftover puddles of the rain yesterday. The Wellsgo UV glow BMX pedal platforms I'm trying are working out well. I have not lost any speed even though I switched out of MKS quick release pedals with Zefal toe clips. For city riding, the large platforms work well for me. |
Welcome to fall on the Coastal Trail. |

45F and overcast this morning. No moose, few runners, just a whole lot of wet leaves on the path. About 3/4s of the ride I had the path to myself. It was nice.

Yesterday CNN was on and I wasn't really paying attention. I looked up and saw this tall gorgeous brunette and thought it was Juliette Binoche and some dumpy little guy. Turns out it was Les Sarkozy entering the UN Bdg.

Still warm here. 110 Sat, 111 Sun, 107 Mon. Today it is finally a bit cooler (101 forecast) with thunderstorms expected this evening.
This mornings ride in was fun as usual. |
111 geeze, I will shut up about how hot is here now.

Nice and dry this morning and I was well-rested and fresh. Left early and saw the sunrise from the bridge. On the roadbike again and it felt very fast today. Tomorrow I've got two weeks working in Central America, i.e. without a bike, which is going to suck if the weather here stays fair.

Forgot to add a big thanks for the moose pics. That brightened my day. :)

Getting a bit chilly in the morning, I started wearing a thick fleece top :( Eh... I want Summer back!

GriddleCakes, that was indeed a fun post, and the pictures had character, don't worry that they were blurry, I enjoyed them too :)

A warmer ride in, than yesterday. More traffic this morning, and this is all relative at 5:10. The difference was that cars were honking at each other, then speeding around. 5am is too early for agressive driving. The moon was very pretty, and a good companion.

Rode my touring bike today and loaded it up with clothes. I've been riding my racing bikes to work mostly over the summer and can't carry as much gear. Normally I restock on rainy days when I drive but we have been in a persistent drought for about a month now. The weather is great for bike commuting but not so good for the farmers and water supplies. We've now completely destroyed the record for 90-degree days in a year. The previous record was 83 in 2007. We're now up 87 days, and the next 4 days are supposed to top 90 as well.

Back to warm. 61F this morning. Headwind but not bad. Looked like it was going to start raining hard, but I got to work well ahead of it.
Not many cyclists out today. A couple of regulars going the other way, and I caught one guy who was doing about 16MPH and with the headwind I decided I didn't feel like passing him. Later we had split up and I came upon a young woman riding a nice road bike with a milk crate strapped to the back. It held a large bag of some sort. She seemed to be struggling with the weight of it all. Still, my bike was probably heavier. :p Yesterday I did an extra-long commute home through woods & fields and going out of my way through neighborhoods and what-not. Trying to get more miles. I'm almost at 10,000 on the Liquid. Bought almost 4 years ago. |
Excellent commute this morning at 63F and sunny with winds from the S @ 13mph. Saw about 6 other bicyclists on the road, which is very strange. One passed my with an e-bike. Usually I never see any other bicyclists along my commute. Three were together doing a group ride. I also had two drivers ask my about my bike at two different stop lights.

Loved the moose. "Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!"
Commute this morning was interesting.... 89 degrees, 90% humidity. I was planning on taking a longer, more scenic route, but about a mile in I noticed my lights were flickering every time I hit a bump. I pulled over and checked the battery connection, and one of the spade terminals had gotten kind of loose. I didn't have a pair of pliers to tighten it, so I found a piece of onion ring box on the shoulder, tore off a piece, and wedged it in there to hold it tight until I could get to work. Because I had to stop, I decided to just go on with my regular route. In town, I passed 3 cop cars and an ambulance (dem amberlamps) just sitting in the road with lights going. There were neighborhood people out looking around, but I didn't see any cops, or EMTs. No idea why they were there. |
1C/34F, calm and clear. I can now get to work without being blinded by the rising sun, which makes me feel a bit safer on the east-bound streets. A big thanks goes to the very courteous motorist who anticipated my need to lane change and slowed down to let me before I had even shoulder-checked. :thumb:

Not much exciting on this mornings commute to work. 7C and a nice full moon.

45F, and tattered cloudcover an improvement over the solid ceiling of last several forevers

Commute this morning was interesting.... 89 degrees, 90% humidity. FunkyStickman, I was going to come in here and complain about it still being in the low 70s with high humidity when I left at 7 this morning, but I'll just shut up now. :-) Today is apparently International Car-Free Day. It feels pretty good to be down to one day a week driving into work. Nothing really eventful on the ride in. A squirrel was running along the top of a chain link fence next to me until I finally beat him. Then later I got my regular "way to go" cheer from the one man cheering section on Jackson/Park/whatever it's called at that point. |

Nice living here in Canuckistan... almost had frost this am and by this afternoon it will be short weather.
Could be working on my tan on Saturday since it is supposed to be summery. |
NYC Morning Commute: Commuting by Bicycle from Jackson Heights, Queens to Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4087/...ebc867ba_m.jpg Beautiful ride in this morning. I bought a bike in March, and started commuting daily by April. I've been meaning to bring my camera along for a long time, but finally did this morning. About 6.5 miles on the first day of autumn. 65º, low humidity, clear and sunny. Bike lanes and marked sharrows all through Queens, and slow street traffic in Manhattan. New construction in Queens Plaza finally about to build a safe bike approach to the Queensboro Bridge - though construction has temporarily made a chaotic crossroads even worse. Traffic was a mess and ultimately had to take a detour on Manhattan's East Side for road closures because of the President's visit to the UN. I'll try to photograph that part of town on another day. Was a good commute, 52* and sunny ... half way to work when I noticed my rear tire was a little soft ... starting on the downhill side of a pedestrian overpass that I can reach speeds of 30 mph. So I walked the bike down the overpass and proceded to patch the tube (roadside assistant was home getting ready for work) after 15 minutes was back on the road. Looking forward to the ride home, sunshine low 70's and will take the long way home (12.5 miles).
