I don't know. Thin spaces only work when I'm riding with someone who can hold a line.

Regarding sandals: Chipcom, are those the old Lakes? I have those. They're great--though I made the newbie mistake of packing them along on a 300K brevet last weekend, and never had time to take them out of the saddlebag and put them on. Extra weight, that's what you want on hills.

I have the older shimano sd61s...pretty much the same.

Why didn't you just wear them instead of packing them?

Yeah, these say SHIMANO on the sole. I wonder if there's any difference at all.

I didn't wear them because the ride started out at 4AM in cooler temperatures, and not having experience using socks with them, I wasn't sure that would keep me warm enough before the temperature rose. Next time I'll wear the socks when it's cool and take them off when the sun comes up and it warms up.

We'd work well together -- you could draft off me, then ring your handlebar bell when we overtake people while I shout obscenities.

You forget, I'll be towing a hundred pounds of kid. No obscenities and I'll pull.

You might consider using the temperature as your guide, rather than the light level.

Fred and self-respect can be neither created nor destroyed, but one can be converted into the other.

There's got to be a light/heat threshold that allows both to be maintained...

Ha-ha! I'm just trying to show that wearing socks with sandals is doable and fashionable too. Freds need not be embarrassed. This "Doris" wears her socks and sandals with pride.

I did the first 40 miles of RAIN in socks...much to the horror of all the other BFers on the ride.

I wore my sealskniz this morning tho....chance of rain on the way home. If I could find sandals big enough for two pair of wool socks AND sealskinz, I'd ride in sandals year round.

OK, sealskinz... the reviews I've found are totally polarized, with the tally leaning negative. What are they good for?

They keep my feet dry and fairly warm in the rain while wearing sandals.
I've done wet centuries in them.

You mean that all of those miles that I put in before I joined BF don't count? Does it matter that the Interwebz didn't exist when I started riding seriously in 1982? Can I get my Dad to sign a paper that testifies to the fact that I learned to ride a bicycle in 1967? Can I get a waiver that proves that I existed before 2007?

Otherwise I'm waaaay younger than I thought I was...
