Schwinn Vera Cruz

I'm debating on buying this bicycle, I like the look and how it's made, Bicycled can automaticly shift now? they be advancing quick lol but what anyone buy one of these before? the only down side is it's from crappy tire, but I can change the silly plastic parts to better ones. I use a Vintage 3 speed now and love it, getting to work is great on one, so I figured this might be nice too.

I saw an auto shift bike at REI and the sale guy looked down his nose at it like it was a novelty for people who are afraid to shift on their own - or who are so new to the sport that they don't understand shifting.

Personally I think the idea is interesting but think that the technology is not here so that I could program the bike to shift for my personal riding. I can't imagine buying such a gamble. Can to rent one for a couple of days to if it works for you?

No! Not because of the automatic transmission, but because of the coaster brake. Not that a coaster brake is bad, if paired with a decent front brake, but by itself, a coaster brake could kill you in traffic. The stopping power just isn't there.

I would be leery about an auto transmission. Just because they have not stood the test of time. Coaster brakes are OK. The above poster overstates their danger. Two generations of Americans grew up with them and rode them. A front brake will stop better and is certainly a welcome additon, but coaster brake OK. The stopping power is just as good as a hand brake, but any brake on the rear tire is not as effective as on the front.
