Time to start FREAKIN' out

On my ride this morning my knee had this little tingle to it. I reached down to rub it for a moment and I felt fluid moving around the cap and a big sting. I hope it's just a fluke. I DON"T WANT TO BE A CAGER!!

???

You felt a 'sting' when you touched the skin? You felt 'fluid' around the knee cap?

Sounds like you have a pretty bad contusion. That's hard to do on a bike (My left knee gets all swollen if I try to run.... thanks USMC!). Have you taken a bad fall, or twisted it some how? Any previous history of knee trauma? Arthroscopic surgery? If the knee was previously damaged, then the repetitive motion of cycling may cause fluid to build up. If you have no prior history, then there might be a problem. Either way, go see the doc, get it drained and get back on the bike.

Clearly you've got leprosy. Time to freak out big time.

(your knee hurts a little, the sky is not falling)

Rather than getting it drained, you may want to consider whether or not your bike is fit / setup properly for you. There may be range of motion issues that are causing the fluid buildup. However, regardless, you probably want to talk with your doctor, then talk with a fit specialist. I doubt you're in the KC Metro area, but if you were there's a chiropractor who specializes in bikers.

Well, when I was a fatter man than I am now (started at 260 now 203) my knee caps were growing out of the center of my knees. I thought everything was all better since I've worked the muscles the dr. told me to work. Draining a knee?!? That sounds terrible :-( I haven't wrecked on a bike since I was like 10 so I think contusion is out. Hmm, could pumping ass against a serious headwind on a tight time schedule rip anything? I did that 2 nights ago when I was the cook for some guests of ours when I had an unexpected flat tire after work. But I didn't feel any pain until this morning.

If you had torn something, you would have felt it, so that is out. Since you didn't run into anything or crash, a contusion is probably out as well. It sounds like a bursitis (inflammation of a fluid filled sack just above the knee cap). Slap an ice bag on it for about 20 minutes twice a day for a few days, and it will probably be gone in a week.

Just a though.

p.s. The above is in no way medical advice or to be considered as such.

I think it is obvious what is going to happen.

I suggest having a flamethrower ready when the time has come.

A big sting? Did you notice any bumblebees in the area?
