Anybody check out the radar picture? It doesn't look pretty.

You win some, you lose some. Better than getting soft like those SoCal riders. I'm biking this week tomorrow and Friday...looks like I had better bust out the wool socks in the morning.

Doppler still looks clear as of 5:30 PM, so I can ride my road bike home. I'll decide tomorrow about riding the beater or not; sometimes there's a window of opportunity. BTW, two Saturdays ago, the Doppler was very green on my 40 mile route, yet there was hardly any rain. Someone once told me that may be due to rain in the upper atmosphere that doesn't get to the ground. Anyone know?

Jim - Yes the new radar is a PITA because it no longer shows rain that affects us. It is now so sensitive that it shows rain when there isn't any hitting the ground. This is so NOT useful. Maybe for airplanes but not pedestrians, car commuters and us.

The heavier stuff is staying to the south of where I am (Burlington VT) but I'm still using my rain gear.

And yeah, I'd rather have rain than snow.

Speaking of which, I need to go to the LBS and get some chain lube. Bye...

Thanks for the reply. I tune into the Weatherscan channel, Comcast 247. They have continuous Doppler over the area up to I-495. Though it may "falsely" show rain, I find the Doppler good enough to show a window of opportunity to do my 14 mile commute before the rain. When it's green on my route I take my Mountain Bike, though I'd rather ride that even when dry, than risk getting my road bike grimy in the rain. My general impression is that about half the time when rain is in the next day forecast, I can ride dry, and fair weather forecasts are pretty reliable.

I have been prompted to accept riding in the rain after reading Bike Forums for a few months. Prior to that I avoided it as assiduously as possible. Before BF, it was kind of a game; if I rode in the rain, or I didn't ride when it stayed dry, I lost. When I rode and kept dry, or when I avoided riding in the rain, I won.

I think the heavy stuff was falling at about 4:45 pm. I was trying to cross rt7 and it was coming down pretty good.
