Threading a needle was bad terminology on my part. I went through the intersection well ahead of the pickup (out of frame) then behind the car. Technically speaking, threading a needle would have put me in front of both cars. I might cut it real close past a rear bumper but NEVER a front bumper.

I like your sig line ~ you laugh because I'm different.... I laugh because you're all the same ~
Here is a similar one I made up when I was a young lad of 25 or so:
When you ask me why can't I be like normal people, don't you mean why can't I be like ordinary people?

Dude! That one-handed riding was freaking me out a little bit. I kept trying to grab your bars through my monitor!
Nice job. I have seen several of your vids before now. You must have a ton of them online. I think I am up to 55 vids posted myself, 10 or so I really like. How many do you think you have up?

I'm at about 30 videos; an injury last summer and a super relationship are cutting into my bike & touring time. I've also become less satisfied with my current method of videoing on bike (compact digital camera either handheld or strapped to the bike) and want to move on to a helmet cam.
What camera are you using, Are you using the Vholdr or a Viosport?
BTW, i like your videos of NOLA riding but wish it didn't look so inconsiderate to other public space users and find issue with you lauding them as instructional. but heck i ran a red light a day or two ago, and passed some 'roadies' by 'threading the needle' thru cross traffic last night so I'm really not one to be criticizing.
Agreed, after assessing other cross traffic, the rear bumper is the one to be focused on for a close pass when 'threading' a needle.

VholdR
The new camcorder from VholdR is coming out any day with HD capability and 16 hours of memory in SD mode on a single card. Mine has one hour per card. I really like the camera, just be sure you get an HD version as they are discontinuing the model I have.
I am thinking of getting the new one and running two cameras so I can edit PIP (picture in picture) and show a tiny "rear view mirror" of what is happening behind me. Often, the jumble of cars "pushing" me is more scary than what is ahead of me, and it all gets missed by one forward facing camera.

Sorry joey, I got hold of some bad beer last night. I've been riding stupid for my job for over twenty years.
I think what offended me is that you're suggesting this is a style of riding worth emulating. Giving roadies clinics in urban riding, etc. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

The trolley track there are in super nice shape compared to Boston, there are often huge chunks of pavement missing around switches and frogs. I am super careful after destroying a nice Mavic Open Pro rim last year.
I've past a couple roadies on my three speed, mostly in traffic where they can't open up the pace. Of course my three speed has 700c wheels with high-pressure tires, so it goes a lot faster than a stock one would.

I thought the tracks were in perfect shape too, but the other morning on the way to work in the rain I managed to get my rear wheel tracked in one high spot. I thought that was impossible with 2.0 inch tires but apparently not. I probably could have bailed off the bike but I kept thinking I would recover - it took literally 5 seconds to hit the concrete. My panniers and hip took the hit. Not a scratch on the bike and the wheel is fine too. Expensive rain jacket is perfect as well. Weird. Of course I was not running the camera.
I do miss the INSTANT speed of the road bike. It takes about one full revolution of the pedals to go from 10 to 20 mph. The Trucker....a few more!

You have some serious issues, Joey. There's so much wrong with this video I don't even know where to start.
You have disdain for people who engage in sanctioned competitions racing others who want to be racing, yet you post videos online of your awesome accomplishments (lol?) racing random people on the street and basically acting like a total tool. Do they even know they're "racing" you? And put yourself in the shoes of the people behind the wheels of those cars. If you get hit because of your recklessness, you've ruined their days as well. The effects of a persons actions are not isolated: their consequences stretch much further than the individual. And what is so important about your commute that gives you the right to be an annoyance to everyone else?
You're videos aren't cute, but the fact that you choose to brag about your self-absorbed actions online is pretty pathetic.
But you're too self-absorbed to understand that. It's all been pointed out to you before, I gather.

I could never ride like you, I lack the requisite testosterone I actually think you're kind of nuts, but it seems to work out fine for you. Love the flowered fenders.
p.s. Do you give your wife heart attacks on a regular basis? I'd *freak* if my husband rode his bike the way you do (based on your other videos).

This is ridiculous. Cyclists like you are exactly why drivers hate us so much. Thanks for ruining our reputation even more.

Watching Joey's video's reminds me of "riding the pace". It's a motorcycle term about riding faster than others in traffic without annoying them while not being dangerous. Just passing through, but faster than most. Think of how the good cops drive, especially the State Troopers out on the interstate, and you've got the idea. The video editing speeds up the appearance of things, and makes him seem more dangerous than it is.
Another nice video Joey, keep 'em coming,

As for joey's riding, my initial impression was similar to some here "what an arsehole!!!!". The more I watch it and read his rationale for such behavior, the more I think he's on to something. Also, you make a good point about the editing speeds. Slow it down to real time and it don't look near as crazy.

"good cops" drive that way for one reason. They're cops and they can get away with it. This wouldn't bother me so much if they didn't spend most of their workday shaking us down for money for doing the same.

Just a note,
the Roadie passed you quickly ....right after the white SUV passed you. I think he was drafting the SUV, but it dropped him right before it/he passed you..but his speed was still up which is why it appeared that he practially coasted past you. He soon slowed, without the drafting aid of the SUV, to the point where he was barely faster than you....and then you quickly started catching up.
Just remember, It's always easiest to win, if the other guy doesn't know you're racing.

I had one like that a week ago, the guy was in full kit but not in shape, becuse if he was there would have been no way for me to stay with him, but he thought he was because he kept trying to pull away but couldn't muster the strength.
I had my MTB with about 15 lbs in the panniers and justed drafted him for 5 miles until I turned off. He was getting so PO'd that I was keeping up with him.
