You could cyclocross that as it is. Or why not just a stem+handle bar+brake lever change to make it more cross-ish? I love those old GT Triple-Triangle frames.

I dont understand the Pabst Blue Ribbon thing. Seriously, when I was growing up that was crap beer. You got that when you were flat broke and could not get anything else.
I go to a trendy bar in San Francisco, and all the young kids are drinking PBR! Do they not know any better? They are like, 23 or 24 at least, I knew better than that by 17.
Of course I had a full time job when I was 17

I drank it because it was palatable and cheap and got a lot of miles on a gallon. My wife suggested that I stop drinking cheap swill and treat myself to beer that tastes good so now I pick up Pilsner Urquell at the local supermarket. In season Leininkugels Big Butt Dopple Bock is a winner.
Luckily I'll be back in PA in two weeks and I can bring back a couple of cases of Yuengling Lager and Porter. To see me throughthe drought of good local beer.

They changed the formula and raised the price a few months before those pictures were posted...now instead of really cheap piss water, it is sort of cheap piss water and only comes in 24 packs...grr

I'm still nursing the Yuengling Traditional Lager I brought back from PA during a summer visit. Beats any of the weasel pee that gets passed off as beer around here.

This thread is both sad and enlightening.
Enlightening because I now know why Parliament cigarettes are both going up in price and harder to find in stock. My GF smokes Parliament Lights, and over the past year they've been getting more and more likely to be sold out at Costco or Walgreen's. I wish they would have targeted something like Chesterfields or More 120s instead.
And it's sad because it brought up the memory of my beloved Stroh's Dark. An inexpensive beer that could stand toe to toe with the best of 'em. May you rest in peace, old friend...

I don't think that the "hipsters" represent the next generation of serious cyclists. I could be wrong (just ask my wife) but I think the vast majority of them will abandon the bike when the next "cool" craze comes along. Or they'll just move on in life and abandon the bike for other reasons. The fixed gear bicycle is, itself, a fashion accessory to most of the "hipsters". Generally I don't have a probelm with them. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that they "have to" be brakeless and many of them can't stop their bikes, let alone handle their bikes worth a crap! I admit that some of them can ride a fixie like nobody's business though!

A trend I've noticed is the old black & white 3 speed Raleigh coming back to life. You see a lot of people biking around on them (often dressed up) where I am. I'm not sure if it is a Hipster movement or not though .

Also at some point, they have to start selling off the parts they pulled off of their conversions...so long as they didn't just chuck them

In this regard I have reaped the benefits of the fixie craze. There's a shop that I frequent which keeps the old components in a "Junk Yard" in the basement. I've found brake parts, shifters, derailleurs, and cassettes still in good condition, -all for a song. A lot of it is truly junk though.

im a little worried. i was walking through target one day and saw shoes for $17.50 so i bought them. i knew a guy who had some extra bags lying around from a thing he put on and so he gave me one for free. we used to have a hook up at kryptonite and out locks were free (evo). im fat and my pants might appear tight, but were baggy when i purchased them. i havent cut my hair in a year since ive had no job. i have an abundance of wool clothing, because i used to work construction and i was outside in a minnesota winter. i hang out at the coffee shop around the corner and we talk about shooting and hunting. we used to drink the hell out of pbr because it was dirt cheap. ive never done a tag. i rode a fixie, stopped and went xcross, but am thinking of riding fixed againthis winter cause they are good winter bikes. im old. i consider myself diametrically opposed to anything hipster, but im worried

That's weird, I used to live by Woodridge when I drank Strohs and they ended up moving there. I'm still in the Chicago 'burbs, and you don't see Strohs out here very often. I thought they'd gone out of business or been bought by some gigantic corporation.

If "Dead Bang" comes on the tube staring Don Johnson there is a Scene in the Stein club. They pan up the Jukebox pause for a second on the Stein club logo and then pan the room. I'm sitting at the far end of the bar.
I got screwed because the Drinking age was 18 till I tuned 17 and they it kept going up every year till it was 21. I had one friend that was legal 3 days a year for three years running. We stocked up!!!!!!
