Does anyone know how much the Kryptolok Mini (ie "Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 Mini-7") weighs?

The full size version is supposedly under 2 lbs, so the Mini might be even lighter than the Onguard Bulldog. It's longer than the Onguard Bulldog, which is important because even an unbreakable lock isn't going to help you if you can't get it around a secure object.

Yeah, but the other weights on Amazon don't match with what people have posted in this thread. Someone over here says it's 0.8 kg (1.75 lbs):

All bikes weigh 30lbs...
a 10lb bike requires a 20lb lock
a 30lb bike doesn't require a lock.

More like 50 pounds around here... My Trucker weighs 34 pounds unloaded, and I still use one of Kryptonite's New York locks with it ;-)

Your 15 pound club ride/race bike needs a 35-pound lock; my newly-adopted 50-pound Schwinn Varsity probably doesn't need a lock ;-)

The most bad-assed locks around here in central AR, though, are probably best for mountain bikes. Those seem to be the favorite targets by the ghetto rats.

When I got my bike I got the 3' Krypto chain and the bigger ulock. I considered leaving the chain at work, but I decided to keep it all in my bags. If I cared about weight I wouldn't have gotten the LHT to begin with. With these the 2 locks, the security I get more than makes up for the extra weight. Like someone said earlier, a few pounds of extra weight is better than 0 pounds for a missing bike.

i dont mind carrying the extra weight since it will protect my bike for a short period of time

leave the lock attached to the bike rack you use most often.

hardened steel doesn't weigh more than mild steel..

I bought this one as a gift for a friend and weighed it on the bathroom scale. It came in at a svelte 11.5 lbs.

After using U locks for many years, I am now a big fan of the Abus folding locks http://www.abus.de/us/main.asp?Scree...ArtikelGrID=11
Weightwise, they are hefty, but not as heavy as U-locks with similar protection rating, and they fold and tuck into a nice little pouch that mounts to the frame. I always hated having to stuff my U-lock into a pannier or on top of my rack.
