Rewrapped my bars... again. (pics)
This time with the leather bar wrap from velo-orange. They have to versions, with and without holes.
The light colored cloth i had was getting too hard to keep clean. It's nice and thick and seems like really good quality stuff. And with a little proofhide it also matches the leather trim on the trunk bag very well. It's all clean now, but I expect it will get a nice patina as I ride, like the brooks saddle. http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...91_MxAKV-O.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...04_2h9U4-O.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...21_pMRn5-O.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...68_PnEvU-O.jpg |
How much commuting do you ride with that bike?

Nice job!

Thanks!
They felt real nice on this morning's ride. Kinda soft, kinda plush... like a nice leather steering wheel. :) |
the little things in life sometimes make the biggest difference, huh? I have 2 layers on one of my bikes.

I can't help it; every time you wrap your bars, I have to take a look. Nice work.
My fave is still that original cloth wrap you put on this set of bars, but I can appreciate that the cloth must get dirty fairly easily, unless of course you just parked the bike in your living room and didn't ride it, but that's not why we own bikes. |

Ya, the first time i did the cloth i used shellac and it seemed to be fine for quite a while.
But this last time maybe i didn't put enough coats cause it got grimy real fast and wouldn't clean up very well either. |
d2, those bars look great, and you take wonderful pictures.

Beautiful work d2create! I think the twine would look out of place if it weren't for everything else on the bike but the colors, bags and saddle really make it look good!
I re-taped my bars with non-adhesive tape and it's starting to move. I didn't know they came in non-adhesive, but I guess I just didn't wrap it tightly enough? You've inspired me to try again though, yours looks great! |
Looks great on your bike! I love the VO stuff. I got some elkhide bar covers that I absolutely love.

Lensbaby on that last shot? |
Wow that looks really good.

Not if you shellac the hell out of it. I've got blue/white harlequin wrapped cloth tape on my singlespeed, entombed under so many coats of shellac that it's smooth and shiny.
When there's that much shellac, what's it like in your hands? |

Lensbaby on that last shot? I was thinking the same thing. |
I just wish you could have taken clearer pics.

How many different bag configurations do you have for that bike? I'm pretty sure in your pictures I've seen at least 3 or 4 different arrangements. I think you may need to attend some meetings or something.

There's these combos below, and then I had a couple other combos on my old Atlantis (that my Hilsen replaced). http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...74_ExaVE-M.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...98_PPuG9-M.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...23_FQd3H-M.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...37_AEjbu-M.jpg http://d2creative.smugmug.com/photos...91_MxAKV-M.jpg |
