Bike shop closed to Wall Street, NYC?

Hi,

I got flat tire this morning on my way to work. Unfortunately, my fixie needs wrenches to replace tires, and I don't have tools with me. Can someone tell me a good bike shop around Wall street?

I heard Frank's on Grand Street is a pretty good one, but they don't open today.

Also, my Bontrage racelite tire (triple layers) was cut through, it is only 3 months new. What tire do you guys recommend for commuting ?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a patch kit? If so you may not need to take the wheel off the bike to patch the tire.

Thanks for reply. My tire is cut through, wires sticking out, I need to replace it anyway.

There is always the trick of folding a dollar bill (or one w/ a picture of ben franklin, since you're on wall st ) and putting it inside the tire at the cut and patching the tube. I haven't tried it myself but it is supposed to keep the tube from making a hernia out the tire cut.

As far as good rolling flat resistant tires, I like the conti gatorskins. I was getting lots of flats on my grand prix 4000's and switched to these and have only gotten one from a direct nail hit.

I just came back from a NYC visit. quite the crazy place to bike but the numbers seem to be growing. I notice lots of big chains that seemed to weigh more than the bikes.

good luck.

I commute on Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires. My rear tire has over 6000 flat free miles on it.

Why would a bike store be closed to Wall Street types? That's discrimination!

That's what I was wondering.

Time to start carrying the necessary tools/spare tube.
