Commuting w/ Gary Fisher Simple City

I'd like to hear anyone's opinion on the use of the Gary Fisher Simple City series for commutes. First hand experience is great or just an opinion from looking at the bikes' design and taking your general commuting experience into account.

More specifically, I have in mind approximately 20-40mile commutes on relatively flat terrain.

Its a modern update of the classic English Raleigh Superbe/Sports 3 speed utility bicycle. And intended for the same commuting/touring role as the original.

I have a hankering for the same bike and recently discovered the new "Euro Sport" series from Nirve which in person is a very cool bike with more gears at a similar price point. Check them out here

So some say, and according to Fisher's advertising, it's an update of a Dutch city bike. But according to quotes I've seen from the actual product planner/designer about how the bike's design came about, the Simple City is really a modern update of the classic Schwinn Suburban.
