Burley Bike Trailer in Winter

Recently I've been gifted a Burley Nomad, which looks perfect for my carfree needs, except for the fact that I live in Michigan and the Burley is not rated below freezing. That's at least 1/3 of the year, by my estimate. They claim the hitch will become brittle in freezing weather, but before I send it back to Burley and eat the shipping costs, I was curious if anyone has any experience with the Burley hitch failing in freezing weather.

If I do return it, I'll get the BikesAtWork trailer, which looks pretty bombproof...
