Yet another "no wonder motorist don't like us" thread.

On my way back from my lunch hour (driving today) I encounter 2 roadies on their way to the local park MUP so they can buzz walkers and as I get closer to them they get 2 wide in the middle of the lane. Now we're on a little residential side street with a 30mph speed limit and I'm the only driver on the road so whatever. As I get ready to pass them the guy on the left starts looking over his left hand should for me and can't seem to ride straight while doing so. So every time he looks at me he swerves across the center line. I get the front of my car almost even with them and he swerves. And as we all know the proper thing to do if you're on the bike is to look at the driver like he's an idiot and motion him on (swerving while you do it of course) So these guys can't even ride in the same direction as a car on a road 2 full lanes wide, how do they not hit people on a bike path thats only 6' across?

You're talking about driving? This is a bicycle commuting forum.

Yes I'm talking about driving. Some of us do that occasionally.

Actually, there were 3 "roadies" ... 2 guys on bikes, and you driving your car. Give em' all the room they want when you are behind the wheel. I don't see the point of this complaint at all.

Near as I can the world of driving is full of swerve and being out of control. Regardless of the hapless roadies lack of skill it will never taint my view of cyclists as a whole, nor do bad drivers taint my overall view of drivers as a group.

More fail than folly here.

Great thread, I like it a lot. I really hate those cyclists riding on my roads, especially wearing their little lycra outfits! Next time yell at them or throw something at them. Later you could even drive by them really close. This is what I do and it works a charm!

Later dude!

Sincerely,
Steve

This is just stupid, I had some driver pulling some crap like this today. I was riding on a residential street with oncoming traffic so when I hear the car coming up behind me, I moved over to the middle of the lane because I deemed it unsafe for him to pass me at the moment. Well apparently he took this as an invitation to try harder to get around, so before I could react he accelerated past me and ran an oncoming car off the road onto the sidewalk!!!! The guy who passed me pulled into a driveway about 3 blocks later and he got there 1.5 seconds before me!! This numbnut ran another driver off the road and put everbody at risk so he could get to his house 1.5 seconds faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freaking relax!!! You are a bicycle commuter, think like a cyclist. Did you really need to pass the guys so you could get out of your neighborhood 3 seconds quicker??? Whats the point?

They were cruising at like 10mph. There was no one else on the road. They started out in my lane and then went 2 wide. No problems until the dumbass couldn't stay just in one lane. They were taking up the whole road. Still with no other cars on it.

I was giving them a whole lane. My car was fully on the opposite side of the road and he was still swerving at me from near the center line.

Wow, this thread is a little weird.

When I first saw your post, I thought it might turn out like this. Look, the cyclist was definitely not riding safely. However, I'm not sure what type of reaction you expected from bike commuters on this subject.

Glad you're safe, and glad to hear the dumbass didn't get run over. Don't expect a lot of sympathy with your post though.

Sorry!

Yeah, I don't understand the hatred being leveled at the OP here. He pointed out a cyclist he noticed being a tool, what does it matter whether he was driving or riding his bike when he noticed it? Just because I commute by bike, doesn't mean I completely absolve all cyclists everywhere of riding like idiots.

Because there's no point to a thread like this. Chances are those two roadies will never ever read this thread.

What does he expect? Everyone to give him a pat on the back and say, "Its okay. Those big mean roadies won't get you here."?

How many cyclists do you see riding like idiots on the road, be it in your car or on your bicycle? I see quite a few every day. Cyclists riding the wrong way against traffic, darting out in front of cars, swerving in unpredictable behavior, etc.

What do I do? It sure as hell isn't posting a rant on an Internet bicycle forum. I try my best to avoid collisions with them and keep on going.

OP: Sorry that our responses have not been up to your personal standards. Perhaps when you next post a thread you should include some sort of guidelines we should follow in formulating replies? We're sort of flying blind here, and most of us aren't the best at improvisation.

How about don't be a dick. It seems like most people wouldn't even post on here with that guideline though.

"Hatred" is way too strong a word here. Hyperbole diminishes your point.

I guess I missed the part where this was the Forum for Judging Whether Other Cyclists are Riding Like Idiots. Let's not turn it into that, okay? That way lies destruction.

Wouldn't that be somewhat fair since its the Forum for Judging Whether Motorists are Driving Like Idiots?

As long as we keep it out of the Forum for Arguing About Clipless vs. Platform, Walmart Bikes, Panniers vs. Backpacks vs. Messenger Bags, and Bike Locks: The Facts, then it's all good.

Nope.... THAT would be in a driving forum where they complain endlessly about cyclists on the road. Wrong department.
