Help, need bike area in the building.

Hello fellow commuters,

I've been commuting for some quite some time in a work place that has a bike area, which is a secured gate and a coded lock to get into. Since I've been transferred to a new assignment in a different city building, unfortunately, there is no bike rack, bike area in the facility to get my bike locked and secured.

The only place where I could lock and park my bike is outside by a sign posted, "no parking." It just so happens to be a city/county jail building where all the inmates get released. So the first thing they see when they get outside is my 15 yr. old bike Trek 900 mountainbike turned into a slick commuting machine. I've been discouraged by my co-workers not to leave my bike outside. I have seen bikes locked outside the building area with missing wheels, seats/seatpost, etc.. So I decided to try to put my bike inside the building, where I would need to pass through several heavy security doors (which I would need to get buzzed into) with high foot traffic. It would take me atleast 10-15 mins. to set my bike in the building in the locker/bathroom shower area. If I'm lucky that noone parks there. It's as bad as looking for parking in the city. And when I do park my bike in the building, it would be in the way of people trying to get into the locker/ bathroom. I have tried bringing my folding bike as well, but with the same result.

I have taken the time to get a decent lock, an Onguard 5 star type U locks and replaced my quick release wheels and seatpost skewers with those key types. I understand that this just delay them from stealing my bike, but, hey! it's better than nothing. I have locked my bike outside for over a month now and luckily (knock on woods) a few has messed with it or tried stealing it to no avail. From time to time I would spend my lunch break outside eating my lunch and observing people. I have seen a few would stop and admire my bike, but also see some people observing what time of lock I have on. Some would look closely at my bike to see what type of parts I have on and look around their area to see if anyone is watching them.

So I have pondered and was trying to find a way to ask a proper channel to have a bike area installed in this city building. The building has a lot of potential areas where they could set up a bike area. One place That has potential is the vending machine that sells snacks/sodas in keyed door thats is big enough to put several bikes in. So I am asking for help and would like to know if anyone has ever had this experience and what have you done to make it happen in you area? Are city buidlings enforced to have atleast a bike rack?

Besides, there's been alot of my co-workers who are interested in riding their bike as well, but are discouraged by the lack of bike area and the high crime.

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated and I don't mind some funny ones as well. "Ask, you shall receive."
