Guess I'm done for the year

I'll be lurking but I just can't deal with the commuting routine. I'll be getting back to my other workout routines and joy riding where and when I can on the weekends.

Yeah, at least offer an explanation! It's not right to just leave us hanging.

Was your commute on the long side? It takes me as long or longer to drive as to ride so there's really no downside for me as far as time goes. I still swim and lift.

In the last couple of years I've spent a lot of time messing around with bikes. At one point I had 4 different bikes and there was a total of eight in the family that I was maintaining. It started taking too much time so I got rid of the ones that we didn't really need.

Now I have two. A road bike that's about 90% there in terms of what I'd like and an "everything else bike" which I still plan on making changes to but I can use as is.

No not long 26 miles round trip. I have 4 bikes I rotated through so I always had a working commuter. I use my car to get to the GYM in the AM before work, at lunch and again after work. I will probably drop the AM workouts till January because of my heavy work hours in the fall 7:00 am - 6:00 pm M-F. In the spring and summer our work drops off and I can ramp up my biking and everything associated with it.

Your route is less than bike friendly, if I remember.

I just wanna play all day! Yeah, the route is all roadway with cagers, including some Route 20; Route 9; Route 27 & Route 126. All heavy duty commuting routes for cagers. As soo as Sept. hits all the workers are back from vacation and the students are back too. I also have to work Saturdays from Mid Sept. through the beginning of November out of state. So I have to deal with packing overnight bags and photo gear. It's just too much to juggle. Then when spring hits we get real easy at work and I can play again!!!!

Biking on Rt 9 is surely not for the faint of heart. Judging from those routes you must have hit it near the Golden Triangle, which would be pretty terrifying - in low traffic cars just ramp up to 50+ mph. I can see how that would get old!

You're doing three gym workouts a day? What's up with that?

I can see why having (dare I say it) an obsession like that wouldn't leave much time in your life for many things, bike commuting included.

the route has a bout a dozen "kill zones". like that phrase? I made it up myself.

yeah, 3 gym visits a day is pretty extreme I admit it, but it helps me forget a woman ...

today I swam 1500 meters before work, lunch featured a visit to my local YMCA to inspect their GYM and pool; then drop a bike at a LBS for a new BB. just got back from my regular GYM for my 1 hr intense weight training. I'm toasted and will sleep well. I deally I can swimm in the AM; run 2-3 miles at lunch; then weight train at night, but I need 48 hrs rest between weight training. I can run and swim everyday.

bike commuting is awesome though cuz then I get about 2-3 hrs of cardio aerobics in in a single day. on more than a few occasions after biking home I would then DRIVE to my GYM for weight training

I'm 50 and since the summer of 2005 I've been working hard on a body transformation. I'm happy to say I'm happy and proud of my progress. I've even been injury free! with some very minor exceptions.

your schedule would absolutely kill me- i ride 42 miles round trip to work- i can't imagine throwing
in weight training and swimming. this is just a thought- maybe you're starting to suffer from overtraining?

LOL, say no more! If you were checking out the Metrowest YMCA, I used to work the front desk there, oh, 17 years ago.

There is a rail trail bike path under construction that will run from Framingham to Lowell, going thru Sudbury & Concord. Maybe 2-3 years from now it'll be open. A second one going Waltham -> Hudson parallel to Rt 20 is in the planning stages. I don't know your exact route but perhaps that'd be of some use to you in the future.

The whole Rt 126/9/30/27 area is insanely planned around exclusive car use. I hate that area even by car.

How about moving your household to a more cycle-friendly route? Seriously though, sorry to see you not commuting. For me, no matter how busy at work, my nearly perfect bicycle commute is a job perk.

We all get the same 24 hours in a day, we all make our choices, and you've made yours. Adios.

I'd consider cutting back to one gym workout per day and keeping the bike commute. Three gym workouts/day is beyond extreme and bordering on insane.

Yes! I know that to be true because people tell me that it's insane on a pretty regular basis.
